Lots of things...IMHO, a great moderator follows these guidelines:

  • A severe commitment of time and energy based solely on passion/love of the topics

  • An intricate understanding of the site, including: knowledge of prior (as well as new) topics, post histories, post etiquette, site objectives, rules, etc.

  • The ability to differentiate on-topic vs. off-topic discussion, and guide the discussion accordingly

  • An objective, and well reasoned, approach to conflict resolution

There are more, but I'll stop there and let others add...

Sounds cool, I think I'll wait until I'm actually needed in that capacity. Too much fun pointing out the flaws in others reasoning (in a nice way of course) right now!

Moderators can certainly point out the flaws in others reasoning, just like any other member can. It's encouraged (with supporting evidence of course).

Mods should be able to utilise minions for the purpose of splatting spammers. I hereby volunteer to serve as such to hunt down and splat as many as they will let me. All I need is access to the appropriate spatula. Come on sirs send me in I'm ready!

Its not that simple DD, and you have to be discerning at times.

    ???? I sorry.

I have decided it is futile anyway, so you can expect a severe drop in said excess postings, and subsequent emails. It is not worth the wiat for the stupid report thingy and I only get one neg thingy a day (when it works)....so it's quite frankly not worth the effort. I shall follow the sheeple and do nothing...should be a great deal less frustrating for all that way ;)

    Hypography?

Hypography [n.]: A combination of "hyperlink" and "bibliography" - ie, a list of links to electronic documents. Comparable to discography and bibliography, but not cartography.

When we launched in May 2000, we wanted to create a site to share science-related content of all kinds on the web. As time passed, our site turned into a pure science forum with lots of cool people.

So we kept the name Hypography and the cool science forum community - and aim to be a friendly place for discussion of science topics of all kinds.
