Computers seem to be getting ever more powerful and movies are getting ever more CGI so...

How long before a man sitting at a computer at home can make an "Avatar" quality movie but with no actors, totally CGI?

How long before a man will be able to plug into a computer program and experience a movie directly as a part of the action rather than watch it with his eyes?

Which one will happen first?

Good question!

An interesting angle is whether we need "virtual reality" or whether the way to go is to actually augment reality.

Haha asking a question with another question I see :P I kinda like the idea of augmenting reality. Know of any sites worth looking at to expand my knowledge of augmentation of known reality?
The fear of death is the most unjustified of all fears, for there's no risk of accident for someone who's dead.

In the sick room, ten cents' worth of human understanding equals ten dollars' worth of medical science.

Wow this AR-drone is amazing.
I think AR will be first simply because it is easier to realise at high quality. For integrating into a virtual world in the same way, our understanding of how information is processed in the brain most become muuuuch bigger...

Hypography?

Hypography [n.]: A combination of "hyperlink" and "bibliography" - ie, a list of links to electronic documents. Comparable to discography and bibliography, but not cartography.

When we launched in May 2000, we wanted to create a site to share science-related content of all kinds on the web. As time passed, our site turned into a pure science forum with lots of cool people.

So we kept the name Hypography and the cool science forum community - and aim to be a friendly place for discussion of science topics of all kinds.
