There are many conspiracy theories about the year 2012, just like there was about 1988 and 2000. If you can, find some and post them.

The only one that seems to have any value in my eyes is this:

There is a theory that states the novelty of the time value of money will reach zero in 2012. This will cause major economic repercussions. It would be likely that the stock markets would crash, inflation would spike, and there the world economy would halt. Mass hysteria anyone....?:P

According to the Maya,
all of their calenders end harmonically in 2012.
This means they also all begin again. (This happens every 26 thousand years~ or so)
I don't know how many calenders they have, but they map everything from time to human interaction. Their calenders get very complex and yet at the same time are completely archetypal (used in other cultures)

A lot of people believe something special is going to happen in 2012.
I think it's already happening.

Just witnessing how fast technology is evolving, how much information is being shared world-wide,
You can see the collective consciousness of Humans rising.

I like to think of us humans macrocosmically.
Stone age humans were like babies.
Slowly throughout time we've progressed thru childhood, and the teenage years.
(Look at how violent, jealous, vengefull, and ignorant most teenage people are, and then look at the masses. See anything similar?)

2012 is like our 21st birthday.
Do you feel different on your birthday?
Not really, huh?
Slowly but surely changes are taking place.

Do you know anything about the Timewave College?

I think that's what it's called, anyway.

Terrence McKenna was the first to design this linear map of intensity.
You could see on his map when intense and novel things happened in our history.
It was graphed.
There are patterns to space and time. Patterns that repeat themselves over and over.
There is a crescendo going on here.

ALL of history is condensing itself right now, it repeats over and over.
Take all of history and condense it in half,
and then do it again
and again
and again
and it gets shorter
and shorter
until what?

You reach a crescendo.

It's kind of hard to visualize...Terrence McKenna was great at describing it.
Youtube timewave McKenna and you will get a LOT of good information.

He saw time spiraling into a point in 2012, just like the maya have predicted.

Before I even knew of any of this I had a profound vision of time doing exactly that.
I felt time spiraling into a point, and when it reached this point, it had an orgasm.

Novelty theory attempts to calculate the ebb and flow of novelty in the universe as an inherent quality of time. It is an idea conceived of and discussed at length by Terence McKenna from the early 1970s until his death in the year 2000. Novelty theory involves ontology, morphogenesis, and eschatology. Novelty, in this context, can be thought of as newness, density of complexification, and dynamic change as opposed to static habituation. According to McKenna, when "novelty" is graphed over time, a fractal waveform known as timewave zero or simply the timewave results. The graph shows at what times, but never at what locations, novelty is increasing or decreasing.

here you can play with the timewave

Fractal Time (Timewave Zero) Software

(damn, this one costs money, I know there's a free one on the net..I'm on the hunt)

I've brought this up in the past but no one seemed to be able to grasp it on Hypography of something.

I see all things as patterns, and thus as waves. Ups and downs, positives and negatives.

I have heard that a meteor was supposedly on a path to earth around the same year.

I think its a great theory, thanks Orbsycli.

check it out

Timewave Calculator

the timewave zero is real.
you can SEE the graph of our novelty.
you can see how it condenses into a crescendo. It's amazing.

All this means is 2012 is going to be intense because it's jam packing all of history into months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, seconds, moments....

it's kind of complex.
different scientists have made different maps of novelty,
but they are all based on the same crescending shape.
the waveform of novelty is relative to how much information is mapped.

As for conspiracy theories...
people think theyre going to be blipped into another dimension,
people think aliens are coming,
people think the world is ending.

whatever. oscillations OK

Hi Orb,

I just renewed my drivers license til November 2012, I'll have to think about renewing it again.

Seriously though, I saw a cable show (on the Mayan stuff) the other day that said the sun will align with the center of the milky way on 31/12/2012. The show also noted that 26,000 years is the cycle for the Earths polarity change.

I hadn't heard this one before: can you explain what they mean by "align with the center of the milky way?" That's kind of like saying "the Earth will align with the Sun"...

Just a technical note, the Earth's polarity switching averages *much* longer than 26,000 years and the last one was 780,000 years ago! While current weakening places the next reversal somewhere between 3000-4000AD (ibid), predicting that it will next occur in 5 years is kind of like predicting that the San Andreas will send Los Angeles into the Pacific Ocean at 12:19 PM on 3/14/2008....could be true, but not bloody likely! :phones:

maybe earth, sun, and the galactic center harmonize?
I was reading about this harmonization in detail somewhere but I totally forgot the details.. :phones:

What's really going down in 2012 with the cosmos? Who knows whats up?

Hypography?

Hypography [n.]: A combination of "hyperlink" and "bibliography" - ie, a list of links to electronic documents. Comparable to discography and bibliography, but not cartography.

When we launched in May 2000, we wanted to create a site to share science-related content of all kinds on the web. As time passed, our site turned into a pure science forum with lots of cool people.

So we kept the name Hypography and the cool science forum community - and aim to be a friendly place for discussion of science topics of all kinds.
