What The Bleep!? Down The Rabbit Hole
22 March 2012 - 06:01 PM
Anyone ever seen it? If not, you can watch the whole thing on Youtube at this link: http://youtu.be/VT50SV3W5K0
I would be very interested to hear people's impressions of this film. It was life-changing for me. It deals with topics that have been discussed here, mainly quantum mechanics and "spookiness at a distance". The big take away point for me was that our minds have potential that is largely left untapped. It's inspired me to delve into meditation and see if I can unlock some of that unused potential to create more fulfillment in life for myself and those around me.
I have doubts about some of the things brought up in the video. Unfortunately, I'd need to watch it again to remember the exact points, but if you watch this, pay attention for any scientific discrepancies you notice and make note of them here. -
Barbour And The Unreality Of Time
10 February 2012 - 09:18 PM
I recently started subscribing to Discover Magazine and there is an article in this month's issue that has me scratching my head a bit. Perhaps a discussion here might help?
The article is a cover peice on Dr. Barbour, who left the academic community to pursue his ambition to overturn Einstein's theories.
The biggest problem I have with the Machian model of the universe is how it seems to be an analogue for describing time.
The Discovery article led me to this Wiki: Link
"Barbour's theory goes further in scepticism than the block universe theory, since it denies not only the passage of time, but the existence of an external dimension of time."
And then I followed the link for "The Unreality of Time". Because..well...it sounds cool.
Here's the wiki for that: Link
So, this McTaggart thought that time was an illusion. The wiki article linked above is a perfect example of failed logic. For example, "Attacking the A-series, McTaggart argues that any event in the A-series is past, present, and future, which is contradictory in that each of those properties excludes the other two. He further urges that describing an event as past, present or future at different times is circular because we would need to describe those "different times" again by past, present, or future, and then again describe that description by past, present, or future, and so on."
Eeek...terrible logic...terrible wording...
I hate seeing Einstein's theories slandered on the cover of Discover Magazine, but perhaps Barbour deserves some scrutiny?

Noah's Ark Found?
28 April 2010 - 06:11 PM
If you haven't seen the news, a group from China has claimed to found a piece of Noah's Ark.
noah's ark - Google Search
For those more inclined towards history and theology than I, what are your thoughts on this?
Is it another spoof or is there validity? The carbon dating shows that it is 4800 years old. Does this match up well with biblical accounts, timewise? Does it matter? -

A friend of mine sent me an email asking me to evaluate this product and if it was worth it.
AquaTune.com - Overview: AquaTune Water Injection Systems
From what I can tell, it is a water injection unit that purportedly uses sonic energy to break the bonds of water and add hydrogen to the fuel mixture. It is also supposed to strip away carbon deposits that are built up in the engine. They claim 25mpg boost and a cleaner engine with less emissions.
First thought is that it is complete BS. But, I'm not an engine person and figured others here could articulate the pitfalls/advantages much better. I did some searching, but mostly found forum posts with conflicting stories and a lot of heresay.
