Topics I've Started

  1. number sequence

    17 May 2007 - 03:54 AM

now i really need help. This particular maths assignment i have (IB math portfolio) requires me to find conjectures from number patters. i figured out most of em except this particular one which goes like
    1^k + 2^k + 3^k 4^k +...... + n^k
can anyone help me with coming up a conjecture with the above sequence?
    THANKS (:
    help would really be wonderful
  2. Extraction of Salicylic Acid - HOW?!?!?

    28 April 2007 - 03:46 AM

Well im in my IB 1 year and supposedly (according to some teachers) that i signed a death warrant by deciding to do an extended essay on chemistry.
Anyway, my topic is the Extraction of Salicylic Acid from different rhizomes
Basically, i plan to extract and purify salicylic from different rhizomes plants (eg.turmeric) and see which rhizomes would yield the highest amount of salicylic acid. well i do realise that it can be difficult to extract an organic compound from a natural source.
THe problem is i couldn't find any protocols for extraction in accessible journals. So far, i found out that recrystallisation migh be possible.
Does anyone have any advice regarding this extraction? Any help would be much appreciated!
  3. an experiment

    18 July 2006 - 06:30 AM

This is a follow up question following a chemistry practical i did earlier.
M (which is identified as Sodium) formas a compound MHCO3 which decomposes on heating according to the following equation

    2MHCO3---> M2CO3 + CO2 +H2O

given a sample and the usual apparatus found in a school lab. Suggest an experiment which could be used to find the Mr of M.
include (a) diagrams (:D measurements taken © how results could be used to obtain Mr of M

    Help is much appreciated
  4. what ifs.... of x-men

    16 July 2006 - 06:19 AM

What if in like a 100 years time there is drastic changes in our genes (due to mutagens like radiation from almost everywhere, cellphones, coms ect ect.) and people are mutated so drastically that some of us actually turn into these mutants as show in X-men.
I don't know if its plausible but i think its slightly possible.
so what will happen both socially and scientifically to these "superhumans" in real life.
    any thoughts?
  5. Extended Essay

    14 July 2006 - 10:57 PM

Well i have got the next 2 years to do a realistic science project and write a 3000 word essay on it, but i have no idea what i want to do, preferably something bio-based, narrow in scope, not too heavy and not to deep. Anyone care to suggest any patricular topics they have done?

Hypography?

Hypography [n.]: A combination of "hyperlink" and "bibliography" - ie, a list of links to electronic documents. Comparable to discography and bibliography, but not cartography.

When we launched in May 2000, we wanted to create a site to share science-related content of all kinds on the web. As time passed, our site turned into a pure science forum with lots of cool people.

So we kept the name Hypography and the cool science forum community - and aim to be a friendly place for discussion of science topics of all kinds.
