In Topic: Warp Mechanics/ Apathetic Conflux & Universal Structure (the grand scheme)
06 November 2004 - 06:42 PM
Sharky! Long time, no see! Where have you been and what have you been up to? I thought that you got banned for that post about physicists pissing you off or something. Oh well... Anyway, you're back! Glad too!
this theory of yours, more speciffically, about how the atom is spinning in on itself kinda helped me to refine my theory of gravity; how it is caused by temporal inertia of mass. the spinning of the atom creates a sorta gyroscopic stability in time (you know how a gyroscope is difficult to turn perpendicular to its axis in space) and it is the expansion of the universe around the atom that warps space to form that curvature that we call gravity. (gosh... that's the shortest version of my explanation that I've ever put to words.)
gee... it's been awhile since my old brain gears have turned in that direction. I've got caught up in a whole lot of other distractions in the world of the macro such as remodeling my house in preperation to sell it so that I can buy another, trying to start a custom chopper bicycle business, helping my kids with homework, cooking dinners and a score of other smaller things to occupy my mind and time.
well... see you around, Sharky. I look forward to reading more of your ideas and inputs. -
In Topic: Force and Weight

TeleMad, I would beg to differ. weight is NOT a force. weight is a MEASUREMENT of the force of gravity exerted on a small object by a very massive one.
and the baseball/bat analogy is a poor one. the forces at work here has little to do with weight (and the strong nuclear force is a bit too complicated for your analogy to be realevant on this macro scale when there are other forces to better explain the differences between weight and forces). They do however, employ the principles of potential energy, and kinetic energy and mass. Potential energy in the bat being held. kinetic energy when the bat is swung. kinetic energy as the balls travels to the bat. When the bat and ball make contact, the transfer of kinetic energy from the bat to the ball is far greater than that of the ball to the bat due to the vast differences in mass between the ball and the bat being swung by the hitter.
Aki, you are correct in a sense... all things that have mass either have potential or kinetic energy. -

the blue bannana sounds familiar, Freethinker. is it just an urban legend? or if it was real, which broadcasting company was it? -

a very detailed explanation, Freethinker.
Prophet Peer, our atmosphere could also be thought of simply as a large prism. at certain angles that the suns light passes through, the light is split into different colors. when the sun is high overhead, we see the shorter wavelenght EM (light) as blue. and so with the light passing through the atmosphere at a shallower angle near sunrise or sunset as the longer wavelength of red.
as to why it appears to get darker as you approach the boundry of space... the less atmosphere that there is, the less readily that the light can be scattered as with the "prism effect" so colors are less appearant until there is no more atmosphere when we see blackness (or it can be said that there is nothing to reflect, absorb, filter or scatter the suns light which is actually there in more than abundance (unless, of course, you happen to be in the earth's shadow (the night side). in which case there is no light to be reflected, absorbed, filtered or scattered)). -

EGHAD! 15 pages! I don't have time enough to read all of the posts!
FreeThinker was inquiring as to my avatar. I don't really recall the exact name of the site however, it was specifically for avatars with literally thousands to choose from. I found the site by using the Dogpile search engine (Tormod showed that one to me many moons ago), and typing in avatar. it was one of the first ones to pop up.
My original avatar, the demon face, was from the old forums and it expressed a few of my ways of thinking. first, it showed the first name of my online name, deamonstar. my intrest in astronomy is somewhat linked to my intrest in the occult. the demon star being of course, the eclipsing binary star system called Algol (it is in actuallity a triple star system, the third member of which is irrelevant because it is unobservable directly).
my new one of the static screen represents how often I actually participate in the discussions as of late.
well. I do have to go now... the family is rushing me out the door.
bye for now!
