this:

and this:

http://people.howstuffworks.com/hydropower-plant2.htm

with a nice gif of how a hydropowered generator works

plus, there's some info on a nuclear power generator:

http://science.howstuffworks.com/nuclear-power.htm

plus there are descussions on this forum about interesting power-generating ideas of great minds, i think that there are some pointed out in Tesla thread...

Anyways, welcome to the forums!

the scienceproject one can be done in a few hours if you're that desperate. but you should try the nuclear power plant first. or how about a petrol-powered one. that should be cool. or perhaps, as tim mentioned, just use cooking oil instead

Have fun!

A potatoe and two different metal nails. It generates electricity. One of my kids did one testing different veggies and metals and charting the results.

Another simple one is one length of wire suspended over a magnet. Showing how direction of movement compared to mag lines makes a difference.

what about chemical electric generator?

get 2 beakers, one with a piece of zine, one with a piece of copper and filled with copper (II) nitrate, and connect the copper and zine, and put a salt bridge between the 2 beakers?

or maybe with other chemicals.......

a stack of nickel and copper coins (an iterating sandwich) separated by parchment paper soaked in vinegar...

what about a fission generator tim? then Hao can use E=mc^2 and all those nice complex formulae in the calculations (laws of thermodynamics and Maxwell's laws), that's bound to impress the teachers and get an A, no?

lol... i dont think a high school project can be a fission reactor...

it requires like 10 millions C for temperature.....

i dont think the teacher will give an A for that.. instead, the teacher will call 911 and a couple FBIs come over and take care of everything....
