Note: Voting has started and goes on in the voting thread! All members may vote.

It's February, it's winter (or summer, depending on your hemisphere), Valentine's is around now and it is generally a good season for competitions! (Isn't it always!) :)

So, we will have a photography contest.

Theme: "Nature"

Submission Deadline: Saturday, February 24, 11:59PM GMT

How to submit: You can submit up to 5 photos. Each must be in JPG format, no larger than 1280x1024 pixels, and no larger than 200Kb. You can *either* submit the picture as an attachment to a post in the Submissions thread (preferred), or (if you do not have sufficient attachment quotas) you can send it via e-mail to tormod at hypography dot com and I will post it for you.

Photoshop and other software: It is perfectly fine to use ANY software you like to manipulate your image. This is not a purity contest. If you don't have any graphics software, you can get GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program for FREE, or you can download a 30-day trial of Adobe Photoshop CS2 (or try Photoshop Elements for something more bite-size).

Restrictions: Only members of Hypography can participate (but lurkers are welcome to sign up to participate).

Voting: Voting starts in a separate thread on February 25th. All members with a post count of 10 or more, plus those with fewer posts but who have participated in the contest, vote by listing their top 5 pictures, in descending order (favorite first), as in:

1. SuperDude: Bird

2. CoolMiss: Snowfall

etc

The first gets 5 points, the second gets 4 points etc. Participants can not vote for themselves, and anyone who participates but does not vote will be disqualified!

Voting deadline is March 3rd, so that we get one week. The winners will be announced on March 4th.

Copyrights: You own the copyright to your work. We reserve the right to use all submissions in our gallery when the competition is over.

Prizes: There are, as always, prizes!

1st prize

A Hypography Sponsorship (no ads for a year!) and a [ame]http://www.cafepress.com/hypography.14505215[/ame]

Two runner-ups receive Hypography Sponsorships.

If the winner already has a sponsorship, we'll extend that sponsorship by one year.

More prizes *may* be added later... :)

We are allowed to remove the photos once we put them up, right?

Uhm...why put it up if you want to remove it? :)

If you mean to ask whether it can be removed and still participate, no. The submission thread will also be the "gallery display" during the voting week. So taking a photo away is the same as withdrawing it. That is of course okay.

Ron: Techniques and methods are entirely up to you!

And yes, you are welcome to replace your pics up until the deadline, as long as the total pics submitted is no more than 5. :)

TBA: Nope! 200K is the limit! This is both due to traffic limits and a technical challenge for everyone.

And, er, mild 'tinkering' with the displayed photo with a computer graphic program is totally a nono?

Even features like despecle and noise reduction?

For the record I'll clarify: You can do whatever you want with your photo (even use illustration techniques) as long as you stay within the dimensions and file size limit.

However, this is a *photo* contest and not a drawing contest, so the submitted entries should be based upon photography.

Damn

i had some beautiful pics but do you mind if i start a new thread and post them there ?

TBA

Of course you can. But are you sure you can't run these down to a more compact filesize? If you export them as JPGs at 72 dpi you should easily get them down to 200K - reduce the dimensions if you have to!

Shall i email you the pics ? because i am no good at such things or i am in the chat room and you can give me a crash course on how to do it there.
