em101 Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 Would anyone be aware about a chart that shows attenuation of various EM field frequencies in different mediums such as water, metal etc. Thank you. Quote
Erasmus00 Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Much of signal loss depends on the geometry of the system you are passing your signal through. Any good look-up table will have standard attenuations for various types of cables, but for any "home-built" device, it would probably be easier to empirically measure than to calculate. -Will Quote
em101 Posted February 15, 2007 Author Report Posted February 15, 2007 where can I find the look up table. Quote
Erasmus00 Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 where can I find the look up table. First, figure out the type of cable you are interested in. Next, either find a manufacturers website, or a distributer, and look at its data sheet. Alternatively, call anywhere around you that sells tranmission lines and ask data sheets for their products. Also, Horowitz and Hill's Art of Electronics has characteristics of some common transmission lines (though its becoming out of date). -Will Quote
