Fatstep Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 Well I suppose this is considered philosophy. The question at hand is, how much money would you choose to receive if you could receive any amount. The amount you would want to live the rest of your life and support your family, possibly move away and never have another job, so how much is enough? Quote
InfiniteNow Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 There is already an existing thread for this topic: http://hypography.com/forums/social-sciences/10188-can-someone-ever-have-sufficient-money.html Please post there, or, clarify exactly why this thread is unique/different prior to further posting on the subject here. Fatstep Posted February 12, 2007 Author Report Posted February 12, 2007 His is do you actually have enough money. Mine is actually asking an amount that if you were to retire early would you be able to live comfortably off of. I am not really asking can you have enough, but how much is enough for you to live from. Quote

Lancaster Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Lmfao!!!!!! She'd know too (A-N Smith) more than likely.. and Lancaster.. read it again.. do you understand the concept of sustainability.. ?? Please explain it to me. How are you instantly doubling that dollar? And why not just ask for enough money to live off the interest without going through the doubling process? Quote
HappytheStripper Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Ah Lancaster.. I was wondering.. would you happen to have a dollar coin I could borrow please..?? It would be much appreciated.. Thanks.. Ashley Quote
God's servant Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 If i had to choose an amount of money i could have i would have to choose somewhere around 3-4 million dollars because thats enough to get yourself a comfortable house and maybe a car of your choice, just enough to live comfortably. I know quite a few people who would choose a large sum around like all the money in the world, this is quite stupid in fact though because once you have all the money then it is worthless, no one else would have any money so everything would only be worth an item, and no one would want to get paid with something that is worthless, and some of you might be saying that you could just somehow "hypothetically" get this money, but all money is, is just a piece of paper with a denotation on it... worthless in itself but worth something with the right amout of specie to make it worth something. I would also not want a large amount of money that comes to the sum of around 10 billion dollars. This is what drives people to madness, killing, even suicide. If you had this amount of money you would have people asking you nonstop for money money money. So if i could have any amount of money it would be around the 3-4 million dollars i stated earlier. pgrmdave Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 how much money would you choose to receive if you could receive any amount. The amount you would want to live the rest of your life and support your family, possibly move away and never have another job, so how much is enough? I suppose it's all dependent on what you want to do then. There is no amount of money that I couldn't find some good use for, so I don't think I can really come up with a limit. $5 will buy me lunch; $5,000,000 will help me live off the interest, with the possibility of investing to increase my wealth; $5,000,000,000 and I could start a charity off the interest; $5,000,000,000,000 and I could help fund small nations to even the economic playing field. The more money I have, the more I can do - hence the only amount of money that would be too much would be more than i could spend. Quote

The amount you would want to live the rest of your life and support your family, possibly move away and never have another job, so how much is enough? It has been evaluated that for optimum happiness we only need as much money as it takes to afford a comfortable place to live and sufficient food and minimal entertainment. So extreme wealth does not increase the happiness beyond this point. Quote

Buffy Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 People are driven by endorphins. In advanced economies, endorphins can be bought in endless ways: movies, restaurants, theme parks, drugs, red-light districts, etc. etc. etc. Endorphins are addictive. Thus people will pay endlessly for more. Its only the pure of mind and soul who can resist these temptations. You're lucky if you fall into this class, it is *not* the norm. The only things that keep it in check are the inability for people increase their income and the ability to see only the next level of gratification. Would love to have a vacation home in Kauai,Buffy Quote

You're lucky if you fall into this class, it is *not* the norm. Would love to have a vacation home in Kauai,Buffy Im not sure if this is true. I would like to think it wasnt and the *norm* wasnt being a right greedy little so and so. I think if your perfectly adapted to your enviroment and have enough food then you are happy. Humans that live in remote parts of the world where the temperature is not too warm and not too cold in stone-age like social groups (tribes or whatever) in my opinion are happy (I dont think they want to go to the movies or whatever). I think its only when humans are too cold or warm or dont have enough food that they get unhappy and they adapt technologies to remedy this situation..once you start this you end up inventing more and more stuff and the stuff takes over until the *norm* is an insatiable greed to consume more and more stuff. If your unhappy with your life having a vacation home will make you happy for about five seconds and then your unhappy again. Stuff wont make you happy only you can do that no matter how pure or impure your soul is. Quote
HappytheStripper Posted March 27, 2007 Report Posted March 27, 2007 Ashleys' Entertainment I often slip away from work to meet some friends around the corner in the local coffee shop to remind of reality and loyalty.. Nothing like good friends to impart the truth.. Anyway.. it was time for me to go to work.. and I was saying good bye to my 2 friends Jonny and Chucky.. and having a good laugh over recent events when the discussion of money came up.. Jonny thinking he would be clever and witty.. handed me a 10c coin..I had to think quick on my feet so as not to be out done by these guys.. Quick one liners are always a competition for us.. Anyway.. as Jonny handed me the 10c coin.. I remember from sense the 10c coin I had in my hand.. and as I received the 10c coin from Jonny.. I slipped my 10c coin to match it and gave it back to him.. Having received the 2 10c cins in his hand.. he looked down at them as said.. "wow I didnt expect that" .. I laughed and laughed cos he didnt expect it.. I replied.. "tis a valuable lesson a 10c coin will be.." Chucky was suprised also.. and leaned over and said.. "hey Jonny.. quick.. look for 20c to go with that 20c and give her 40c.. and she'll give you back 80c.." Lmao.. Regards Ashley Ashley Quote
