schlik Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Hey, I'm a grade 8 student (nerd to all extents) who has approximately 4 weeks to do a science fair project. I'm leaning towards a long domino effect type experiment (not specifically involving domino's), however i need to display some scientific knowledge in the process. I can't figure out how to work that in. Any help? If I can't find anything on that topic then I'm going to need another one. Any ideas? I'm looking to place this year, so i need a real show-stopper. The domino idea is simple yet interesting, my project doesn't necessarily need to be simple, but interesting is a must. To be honest I found this site purely because of my project. However, I will probably continue posting after, since I have yet to find another online scientific community. As i mentioned earlier, i am a nerd, and although I'm mostly interested in computer related things, science is also an interest of mine. (The fact that I watch Nova backs that up.) :) EDIT: I'm thinking of doing a mini Van de Graaff Generator. Whatd'ya think? Quote
Buffy Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Greetings schlik! We've got a pretty good Science Projects and Homework section that should provide you with some ideas! The Van de Graaff Generator sounds interesting, but be sure to check with your local Fire Marshal--er, teacher, first! Have fun! Buffy Quote

The two steel salad bowls i have for the sphere are about a 22cm diameter, so it should be safe enough (not powerful enough to cause any lasting effects). I have a PVC tube for the supporting shaft, using rubber and aluminum for rollers and plastic for the belt. I haven't decided on a height yet, any suggestions (somewhere between 30 and 60 centimeters)? -Schlik Quote
