In America, you can walk into a gas station and buy a blunt wrap.

These are strips of tobacco paper that people allegedy buy to roll their own tobacco in, and make their own cigars.

I can't find any information regarding what these are, exactly.

What is a bluntwrap, and what do they use to "Flavor" them?

Why would anyone want to smoke flavoring?

Facts please?

What is a bluntwrap,
Though it appears to me that the commercial products may be processed in some way – milled, wetted and stamped, or some similar technique to make them more uniform – a bluntwrap is basically just a piece of tobacco leaf. Since there smaller than the full size leaves used to roll cigars, and since they usually are used to contain chopped tobacco or something else besides more tobacco leaves, the end result is not a small cigar, but a cigarette in which the usual paper is replaced by tobacco leaf.
and what do they use to "Flavor" them?
As far as I know, they are flavored by spraying the tobacco leaf with liquids such as mint, apple, grape and berry juice, or water-based tinctures of spices such as cinnamon and mint – pretty much the same stuff used to flavor a fruit role-up snack.
Why would anyone want to smoke flavoring?
This is an interesting and controversial question, requiring one to form an opinion. Opinions fall into a few basic schools:
  • They are flavored because smokers like the taste of fruit, spices, etc. As one would expect, manufactures and advocates for bluntwraps and other flavored tobacco products favor this opinion.
  • They are flavored in an effort to make them appeal to children, in order to encourage tobacco smoking among children. Anti-smoking advocates suspect this is the true, covert reason for the sale of flavored tobacco products, and note that the design of the packaging of these products tends to be cartoonist and candy-like, similar to the packaging of other products target for children. Several memos from cigarette manufactures have been discovered supporting this claim.
  • They are flavored in an effort tot make them appeal to children, in order to encourage marijuana smoking. Similar to the previous opinion, except that, being an illicit drug in the US, no corporate memos exist (AFAIK) to support this claim

IMHO, all of these opinions are to differing extents true.

As the US Surgeon General has been telling the People for generations, smoking is addictive and hazardous to your health, none the less if the wrapper is made of tobacco and flavored with fruit. It is also, despite recent legal setbacks, a big business, unlikely to go away or be unopposed any time soon.
