C1ay Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Check this out: Zer0 CC I didn't particularly get the connection of people hanging on meat hooks with my post of a fiddle playing step dancer and considering the thread topic, "What are you listening to right now?", it didn't seem to have much of a sound track to listen to either... :naughty: Quote

Here is a nice drum track I was just listening to. Not minimalist, but kicks *** Crank it.. The King Of Drummers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJsybbSHfx4 Quote

coldcreation Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Here's another non-minimalist percussion piece from one of my favorite drummers :) Nice. It's funny because last night I was about to post this vid (instead of the drum solo's above). Check out the drums here, and again, pump up the vol to the max: YouTube - Rush - Tom Sawyer ( Exit Stage Left ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scTFAOfWiAU&feature=related Not bad for a three-piece band... At the end, someone holds up a sign that reads, "Rush, the best in the galaxy" Quote
coldcreation Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Continuing with awesome drumming, check out Chester Thompson in this one. Note too one of the greatest guitar solo's ever (well, one of my favorites). Steve Hackett - Firth of Fifth Solo (live) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xW_7YyKawbw Quote
C1ay Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Well, this theme just wouldn't be complete without a piece from the original king of drumming on a minimalist drum kit :) YouTube - Buddy Rich - 1970 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWrxHP36N1Q Quote
coldcreation Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Well, this theme just wouldn't be complete without a piece from the original king of drumming on a minimalist drum kit :)0[/url] Yup, Buddy, the best of the best; so ******* fast. He could do anything and everything, and did. I have an old (vintage) three-piece jazz set, similar looking to that one, a Ludwig 1968, sparkling blue pearl. Sounds unbelievable. I'll have to change the skins on it eventually though. Still have the originals. Bought it early 1970's. Never sold it, though had plenty of offers to do so.:) CC Quote
REASON Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Hey, I love kick *** drumming too. Have you guys ever checked out Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater? Here's a classic. YouTube - Dream Theater - Drum solo - Mike Portnoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UryDCz35JKo Quote
coldcreation Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 Hey, I love kick *** drumming too. Have you guys ever checked out Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater? Here's a classic. Never checked him out before. Nice drumming. Fast. That upside-down Paiste sounds cool. One of my favorite drummers, though perhaps technically not the best or the most rapid, is John Bonham (RIP). There are several solo's online. One in particular is titled John Bonham Live - Moby Dick (Part 1). At 5:06 he puts the sticks down and plays with his bare hands. Bonham had a special talent for triplets, not just in his drum solo's but throughout Zep pieces in general. I love triplets. His son does them quite well too, following in his dad's footsteps. Another nice one is "Carl Palmer - Tank (Drum Solo Excerpt)." He kicks it Old School. Though the sound on this vid is not top quality. Check out too an intimate look at Phil Collins and Chester Thompson playing on a stool in a hotel room: YouTube - Phil Collins and Chester Thompson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REHjwPeA274. Any other good ones? Quote

coldcreation Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Here's a nice King Crimson jam. youtube king crimson elephant talk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76eoyyem2K8 Check out the Adrian Belew guitar solo between 3:28 to 4:28. (He plays a similar one on a Talking Heads track. I'll see if I can find it. Stay tuned). This is a fine performance by Fripp, Belew, Levin and Bruford. Enjoy... CC Quote
coldcreation Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Here is a montage of some classic work by a group of locals from my hood on the east cost of the States. I actually hung out with Byrne on occasion, back in the mid-late 70s (we were both in art school). I was playing guitar in a New Haven band at the time (called The Children), but later moved to Paris, hooked up with Byrne there once too. coldcreation Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Okay, I found a live version and a studio version of The Great Curve. Adrien Belew (King Crimson) on guitar. Note his two solo's; 2:00-2:40 and 5:12-6:37. Byrne rocks too... At 3:26 the Heads are on a roll, hot, goose bumps begin to manifest themselves. This is best with headphones and full screen. Talking Heads - Live in Rome 1980 - 11 The Great Curve http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KQjy02eqOk&feature=PlayList&p=D3763D45878E9DFC&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=27 The studio version can be found with this title: Talking Heads - 03 - The Great Curve (Remain In Light - 1980) with lyrics. Backup vocals are impeccable on this version, in comparison to live above. Belew great as usual... CC Quote
