Creating a business website

I have a product to market, but I'm currently asking legal permission to do it, but I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get the permission. Well, while I'm waiting I want to start building the site if I can. I only have basic HTML knowledge from looking at pages in notepad. I only know enough to build a information site in notepad, but not a business one. For this I need it so to download a file, they first have to pay money to a pay pal account. Now, I have the capabilites of learning this through tutorails, but I suck at google searches for finding anything. There are two options for me, and each will be asked for help upon.

 

Option #1

I could learn everything myself, but this will take some time and I'm not a very paitent person. This is only a last resort for me on this particular site because it's not garenteed to work. If you help me via this option just link me to good tutorails for making this kind of site.

I could hire someone to build the site for me. There is one major drawback and that is most people will only make one if they get paid first, and I don't have the money for it. The only money I could promis is 25% of the money made from the site. To ensure you are getting paid correctly, I sugest making it so it keeps track of the total downloads, then just multiply that by the download price and 25% of that money is yours. If anyone knows ways someone could scam me on this please inform me before someone makes an offer because I doubt I'll turn it down.

i take it the product is software-based?

You will most likely sign a contract with a web developer, and they like to get paid right off, so you will probaly have to pay in installments and set that up with a dev. Unless it is one of the beginner freelances who are looking for a job and do anything for some kind of money.

 

What level people are you looking for. How much information and how many products do you want to sell? What kind of a product is it, as it may not be very prospective to the dev to go for the 25%, you may need to convince the dev or the company that this will actually sell.

 

You also say you are asking permission, that is usually better to get in writing, just so you avoid further problems such as, "I didnt give him/her permissions to do this, i am suing him/her for some money"

 

Yes if possible you want a contract, as it is a legaly binding agreement for both you and the dev.

 

I may have friends i may relay you to, one a professional web dev, one a beginner freelancer who will need help.

 

Lastly what is the sum you are willing to pay right off the back, and what are you looking for to spend on the website?

What you're asking for is called "spec work" and almost no reputable developer or designer will do it.

 

(Basically, you're asking them to make something for free in the hopes that they'll get paid later.)

 

You might be able to convince someone to do it for a discounted rate if you give them rate sharing like you are suggesting.

 

Warning of scams? Anyone who takes you up on those offers is likely out to scam you. There are plenty of "disreputable" developers who will agree to your terms, and then use your domain as remailing host, or any number of other distasteful ways for them to make money at your expense.

I know a very good web developer, he did MSU's engineering webpage, Jenn Air's whole site, and Ann Taylor's entire site. He's not very expensive either, if you would like to see his portfolio or some of the sites he has done just respond and I'll pm you the information and how to contact him.

Webdevelopers like to get paid, and as far as i can see "paying" is not quite an option.... I know a few devs with portfolios like none other like this one however like i said, devs like to get paid...

I am just wondering as to why you say this is one like none other? He/she is trying to market their products and their ingenuity, yet they have made a measily one template. They are selling their ability to make multiple templates, and they don't even have that shown in their PORTFOLIO, of all places.

When was the last time you have tried to make a website in alpha transparency? (its a lot of fun playing with that (sakurabloom) website with web developer extension for firefox)

Besides its not that one template that customers seem to like more (his portfolio only features very few of his websited) that is impressive, its his templating system, especialy for ZenCart.

 

He primarily installs and integrades ZenCart on other people's websites, and if you have ever tried integrading into systems built by other devs, you'd know that it is not an easy tasks.

In all reality they both boil down to the same thing, money investment. Time is money, so you either make a direct investment of money into the project of an indirect investment of time, which is time that you could have spent making money, and thus money once again into the website.
