I don't know what's going on here, but:

I use the latest an' greatest Netscape browser. For the last week or two, it runs fine, but then pauses randomly for a few seconds, and runs again. Sometimes this can go on for more than a minute, in which all my open tabs simply freeze shut, and nothing responds. If you leave it, it runs fine again.

So I thought there might be something wrong with my lappy. So I started testing on my desktop. Same story. My neighbour runs the same version; same story. Also, I've a friend in cape Town who's suffering from the exact same thing, also since the last few weeks. And the common denominator is Netscape. So now I'm forced to use Internet Explorer, which I don't like, and there seems to be nothing wrong with it!

Was there some sort of flawed automatic update released recently for Netscape? Anybody else noticed this? Do you know of a fix? What's up?

It's really burning my butt, 'cause I don't like IE too much. But I honestly can't find anything wrong!

If it causes the SAME problem on several (unconnected) computers then most likely the *software* has a problem, not the machines. I don't know anyone (okay, 1 South African) who uses Netscape anymore...

Get a Mac! (Oh, wrong thread).

Netscape? What's that?

Get Firefox...

Netscape is built on Firefox.

Damn, I looked on Wiki just now, seems that Netscape's usage share has dropped from once-dominant to less than 1% of the browser market! ;)

I started using Netscape in the early 90's, and have stuck to it loyally, basically in the same way that a frog won't jump out of a pot of water that's slowly heated.

Bloody hell...

So I just go Firefox then?

It seems that there was a software update, which caused this crap to happen. They're working on the problem, but if less than 1% of internet users will notice this, I don't think they're in too much of a hurry.

Bye-bye Netscape.

Dammit.

Actually, Firefox is built on the Mozilla core that was released when Netscape decided to release it as open source a while back. Shortly after that, Firefox replaced them.

Gone are the days when only one web browser is used.

Java script used in some web pages is still in beta stage.

There are a few other free web browsers which can cope up

and give good access to web. Try NetCaptor, Avant and Maxthon.

oh come on, of anything i would expect opera or text-based browsers like links, but come on netcapto or avant....

avant is too confusing, it almost looks like the same browser that is used by AOL in their dialup package, infact skin avant and you get the same darn thing. besides its closed source and does not support extensions, or css2 propperly or css3 at all, and it's IE-based since it requires ie to run...

NetCaptor also runs on the IE engine, so same things apply to the NetCaptor as avant, outside the aol stuff. net captor website isn't even up!!! it is also closed-source and thus is completely worthless and unliberatable...

Maxthon is once again based on the IE engine, although it looks more like IE7 then the previous IEs. This one is finally skinnable, and supports IE "extensions".... might as well run IE, i mean you are not getting any extra functionality, you will at least have extra free space.

like every one of these browsers can be written in an hour in VB by any VB enthusiast, anywhere...
