Maran Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Hi Folks, I do Earth Science / Geography and I am becoming tired of the Global Warming issue as a topic of disucssion - I will leave others to argue the case for / against / in between it. However, I very much enjoy philosophy of science - and if not posting, will at least be viewing the postings in threads relating to that subject. I've been told that I'm very Hegel-ian in my scientific approach..... and I suppose I am in certain ways. I think Feyerabend has something to offer science - even if he is a supposed enemy of it. If anyone can suggest some interesting literature / books on the philosophy of science (with, perhaps, special reference to earth science / geography) it would be very much appreciated. Maran. Quote
TheBigDog Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Welcome to Hypography, Maran! There will continue to be debate on GW long enough for you to gain and lose interest in the fight a thousand times. Philosophy always has enough action to keep a good mind occupied. I think you will enjoy in here. Books on the philosophy of science? Hmmm... Let me think about that one. Meanwhile, enjoy the threads! Bill Quote

Welcome maran:) I am a bit over GW, but solutions and suggestions for change still interest me.(see "DIY Planet Cooling" and "Terra preta" sub forum)There are several active GW discussions here. I have not seen much here on Philosophy of Science, although it is an interest of mine too.Perhaps when you get settled in you can start some threads on it? Quote
Pyrotex Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 ...I've been told that I'm very Hegel-ian in my scientific approach..... and I suppose I am in certain ways. I think Feyerabend has something to offer science - even if he is a supposed enemy of it. .... Paul Feyerabend : "...Feyerabend's position is generally seen as radical in the philosophy of science, because it implies that philosophy can neither succeed in providing a general description of science, nor in devising a method for differentiating products of science from non-scientific entities like myths. It also implies that philosophical guidelines should be ignored by scientists, if they are to aim for progress...." Wikipedia Yes, it is so frustrating to have to deal with all those messy, annoying facts. ;) Quote
