ughaibu Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 The first rule of self defense is 'escape'. Perhaps you were the aggressor? Quote

LJP07 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Is this biological, or for the biology forum? Should this not be in the watercooler or something like that?, Seems to be geared towards the action of fighting, no? Quote

InfiniteNow Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 need help !Evolution. Natural selection. Territory. Protection. You were each testing yourselves and your abilities on an unconscious, hormonal, and instinctive level. “Can I take this guy? Can I challenge him to a fight and get him to back down before we even start?” Exploring boundaries, pushing envelopes, learning about self and others… When physical violence is involved, there is no such thing as a winner. There is only a person who brags to others that they’ve hurt someone else. Is that really something to brag about? [/rhetorical] We no longer live in trees and savanna, where the ability to kill an aggressor will aid in our survival. We live in a society with billions of people, and only the prefrontal cortex induced suppression of the reptilian amygdalal systems (look up emotion and intelligence to learn more) will allow us to move forward on this planet as a group of life… together. Survival in this world is reliant on survival of others with whom we can consense. Blood regenerates, and your immune system will heal the wounds. Use this experience to grow as a person and understand the world. Use it to improve the person you will become later in life… Quote
Jegroeg Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 Take karate or judo or wrestling lessons. Strength without propper training and reflexes means little. You will feel a whole lot better when you have the confidence to take care of yourself in the future. Turning the other cheek will grind on you for a long time and affect your pituitary-adrenal axis, unless you're Jesus. Quote
TruthfullyLying Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 This kid makes me proud. Nevermind karate or judo, that crap never works in fights. Take up boxing and by the time your 15, youll have settled down a bit and highschools going to be a breeze. Dont lift weights until your at least 16-17 though, youll end up a midget for life. Quote
Guest chendoh Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 To me it feels, oily and does taste like metal. Quote
nkt Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 InfiniteNow, I have to disagree with your statement that being able to kill aggressors isn't useful. It is, in fact, the conrnerstone of society, even polite society. The lawmen have, eventually, the power to take life. Whether they take it literally, with a blow or shot, or metaphorically, by leaving a man to rot in jail for 50 years, or even metaphysically, where they use character assassination to damn even the dead. And this is what we base our entire way of life upon. At the end, when words have failed, pushing has turned to shoving, and lines have formed, society must be prepared to hold the line it feels cannot be crossed. Don't forget that we sleep easily in our beds because our taxes pay for good men to do bad things in our names. Quote

While I disagree with most of what you said, nkt (as it blatantly ignores past experience, positive reinforcement, and all manner of other social theories), I never said that the ability to kill aggressors isn't *useful.* What I said was: We no longer live in trees and savanna, where the ability to kill an aggressor will aid in our survival.
