Household objects is a cool choice! I'll definitely get a photo or two in!

Well.... if the boss agrees...

I had suggested to freeztar that we keep the theme science oriented since that is what you had previously mentioned to me.

:) Confused,

MB

I simply very much dislike this topic. It's too easy to just take a picture of something from your house and post it here.

But in order to win, it must be a picture that stands out, no? A challenge is a challenge! :)

I would suggest we extend the contest to May and change the theme. I would like to see a Spring theme. In fact if we did just 4 contests each year, themed on each season that would be a great foundation to build upon.

But "Spring" is different for everyone is it not? You can't have a basis for judgement if the hemispheres experience different "Springs".

I hear you though, MB. This month's topic has not caught on. Maybe we should just award the mug to Freeztar and come up with a better topic for May. The topic was fairly randomly chosen (no criticism of Freeztar!).

Maybe it would be nice to have a more directly science/tech/nature related topic. I did like the architecture them. How about a contest with "Pollution" or something similar as a topic?

I certainly don't think my meager (and lonely) doorknob deserves a win, but I'm also not one to look a gift horse in the mouth.

I hope that the participation was low because of the theme and not because of general apathy. I like big puppy's idea of a spring theme.

I don't think that the theme should be science based per se. In reality, how does one take "science pictures"? How do you photograph a theory or an experiment? Science is a process. Photography is an art.

If the theme is animals, which fall under the science of Biology, then if I take a picture of a rabbit in my yard, is that really science? Maybe I'm being hard-headed, but that's my 2 cents on that.

At any rate, let's pick a theme general enough to appease the naysayers and run with it. After all, today is May 1st! :hihi:

I agree, no reason to stay within strict "science" limits. This is a science forum so by default what we talk about is in some way related to science.

I say let's go with the "Pollution" theme.

Holy cow that was fast Tormod! :)

Pollution sounds good to me. I certainly see enough of that from day to day to have lots to photograph, sadly.

May I suggest an additional rule?

"Your photograph must be taken specifically for this contest"

It is a good idea imo because it levels the playing field, but on the other hand it might disclude a bunch of would be participators. :hihi:

Sounds fair enough for me. We could change the "must" to "should" though.
