Ganoderma Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 very nice! you plan on breeding that species? what others do you keep? nice to see peopel keeping tarantuals. you keep any others, any other mygalomorphs? Quote
C1ay Posted April 13, 2007 Author Report Posted April 13, 2007 I also have an Usumbara (Pterinochilus sp.), Mexican Red Leg (Brachypelma emilia), Brazilian White Knee (Acanthoscurria geniculata) and a Stout Leg (Eucratoscelus pachypus). Over the years I have had quite a number of species. I thought about breeding but many of the tarantulas at the local pet store sit there for months so I don't see a need to produce more since there's plenty now that can't find a home.... Quote
Ganoderma Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 trade is not small, but in pet shops everything is different. Captive bred blondi's are worth a fair bit... what is your favourite? mine is Usumbara (second are the pokies or green bottle blue), very pretty! got any more pics?:hihi: Quote
Turtle Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 A couple more questions? Just how big is Thera? Is that plate a saucer, or a dinner plate? :phones: Also, does she eat live mice? Quote
C1ay Posted April 13, 2007 Author Report Posted April 13, 2007 That's an 8 inch plate and yes, she eats live mice.... Quote
Ganoderma Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 not a bad size! how big are your usumbara? hope you dont mind but here is an old pic of one of my usumbara juveniles from back in the day. i truely miss my invertebrate collection in canada. you keep any other "bugs" (using bugs in a non-taxonomic way :cup: ) Quote
C1ay Posted April 20, 2007 Author Report Posted April 20, 2007 My usumbara's about 6". The tarantulas are the only invertabrates I have at the moment. Sometimes I keep scorpions as well... Quote
Ganoderma Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 nice! ever looked into uropogyds? sp??? they are some fun animals. what sort of scorps you keep in the past? they are pretty cool, but i never had that many. their sting in the past always got me so i tended to steer clear. i remember looking forever to find some pandinus colei (SP?) but only one dealer who ran off had them. got more pics? perhaps of her cage too? i love environment shots, even if captive. Quote
C1ay Posted April 22, 2007 Author Report Posted April 22, 2007 Mostly bark scorpions and a few emperors, pandinus imperator. You really shouldn't handle any of them though since they get nothing out of it except some stress. They're like fish, watch them but don't play with them. I don't have any more pics at the moment but I'll try to get some. I generally try to interact with them as little as possible so I don't bother to disturb them with photo sessions... Ganoderma Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 yes i totoally agree. my problems have always come from wild scorps, removing/sorting babies and taking them out of their shipping boxes. i never have problems with spiders and their speed, but scorps always managed to get me. you keep any asian sp. or american (north/south)? freeztar Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 I generally try to interact with [scorpions] as little as possible so I don't bother to disturb them with photo sessions... That seems weird to me. I assume they are kept in a small environment for life. Is that stressful for them? Is flash photography the catalyst for panic disorder in scorps? Consumer minds want to know! Quote
C1ay Posted May 1, 2007 Author Report Posted May 1, 2007 I don't suppose the flash bothers. The habitat I keep for them is not real conducive to photograhy either with lots of little hiding places, they prefer little hidey holes to the open. I try not to take them out of their habitat because that is stressful to them, and my tarantulas too. Quote
C1ay Posted July 3, 2008 Author Report Posted July 3, 2008 Here's Thera's latest moult. I bunched it up in a prowling position and dried it. It's sitting on a 10" paper plate. Quote
