pkagey Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 I am new to the site. Background is theoretical physics / mathematics and am now working in defense industry. Spend some time on road bouncing between home in San Diego and east coast. Quote
sanctus Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Welcome to the forums, it's good to have some theoretical physicists onboard. I don't know if I can say to count myself amongst them yet, as I'm still writing my master-thesis... Quote
pkagey Posted April 25, 2007 Author Report Posted April 25, 2007 Sanctus: Thankyou. Well, put it this way - I did my PhD work in theoretical physics soime years ago and in intervening years have become more of a bureaucrat; USG and industry. Too senior now to do much fun work now but still do programming, applied physics, etc. I am on way back to SD today after meetings at DARPA and then overseas (vacation). What is topic of thesis. regards pk Quote
sanctus Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Generally Cosmology, more specifically CMB anisotropies and changing the CMBeasy code (similar to CMBfast but in C++) to be able to calculate other models than inflation... But you use too many abreviations for a person not of english mother tongue and not from the US like me, I guess SD is San Diego, but I really wonder what USG and DARPA is... Quote
pkagey Posted April 26, 2007 Author Report Posted April 26, 2007 I guess USG = US Government? You are correct on USG! SD = San Diego, CA. DARPA = Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency ("ARPA" in the old days). Guys that got Milnet then ArpaNet, now internet up and rolling. Quote

Sorry: I am lazy so live on acronyms. SD = San Diego, CA. USG = U S Govt. DARPA = Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency ("ARPA" in the old days). Guys that got Milnet then ArpaNet, now internet up and rolling. I have read some interesting papers by folks (e g Weeks) who are trying to use CMB data to figure out the 'connectedness' of the universe. regards pk (pkagey) regards pkagey Quote
