Roadam Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 Some time ago I have seen a video of some guy who mixed some acetone into hif car fuel and claimed that mileage had improved for about 20 percent. I was curious so I checked with google and wikipedia but found little real facts. Is there any truth behind this? On some site they claimed that this is becouse acetone helps fuel to evaporate fully. CraigD Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 Check out 4138 from a couple of years back. I believe the consensus is that Acetone as a fuel additive doesn’t much or any improve fuel efficiency, and can damage fuel system and engine parts. The discussion on the wikipedia talk page for “acetone” strikes me as convincing, and includes the conclusion that, even if acetone did all as a fuel additive that people claim, the fuel efficiency improvement would only be 1-2%.
