Boerseun Posted May 10, 2007 Author Report Posted May 10, 2007 The Cold War! Also, the Berlin Wall - in the eighties, every second news program had something to do about the communists, how many tanks the Warsaw Pact had vs. NATO, nukes, etc. And then the wall fell and it was all over! Also, do you remember Matthias Rust, the guy who flew a Cessna 172 under the radar from West Germany all the way to the Red Square, throwing a dirty nappy right over the communists' heads? THAT was brilliant! Sadly, the guy suffered from bad depression, and committed suicide a few years later. But he's one of my all-time heroes, if cahone-size has anything to do with it... Quote
Boerseun Posted May 10, 2007 Author Report Posted May 10, 2007 Just shows how memories get warbled! Matthias Rust never committed suicide, he stabbed a nurse and kinda screwed up his public image. Also, he never ducked soviet air defences - according to them, they followed him all the way but never engaged due to confusion in the ranks. More than 2,000 guys lost their jobs over the incident. I entered the previous post and then checked out the Wiki link... hahaha... Check out WEHT.net: The Online Compendium of 'What Ever Happened To?' and 'Where Are They Now?' - informative! Quote
