Loricybin Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 I hate to dampen the parade, but have a look at this article: High Mercury Levels Are Found in Tuna Sushi - New York Times  i'd hate to knock this thread off topic, but what exactly does mercury do to you (aside from lingering in your body for extremely long periods of time)? "Over the past several years, studies have suggested that mercury may also cause health problems for adults, including an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and neurological symptoms." what kind of neurological symptoms could mercury inflict? are there any statistics or findings regarding how much increase in cardiovascular risk this will put you at? i'm not particularly worried, just curious.(and still making yummy rolls at home.) DFINITLYDISTRUBD Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 Never tried sushi..... couldn't try it either....I haven't eaten anything raw in decades (to many nasty things you can catch!!!!!!)....Also I keep fish...oscars to be specific (a mamma , a pappa, and 10 of their babies)...Pet...food...... hmmmmm.... Nope couldn't do it...I can't combine pet and food...to me it would be like eating a distant cousin (or something of the sort)...I love my fish (cute lil monsters) they're family just as my lab and both my cats are family therefore all fish are not food (for me) as they have kin that are part of my family. Love wassabe though!!!! If you want reall heat though you can't beat habenero paste!!!! Quote
HydrogenBond Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 I like sushi as an appetizer, just before I eat something. After a plate of it, the gag reflex starts, if I don't chose properly. Six pieces is about a 6 inch square piece of paper thin seaweed. A small handful of rice, a spoonful of misc., and about 1-2 ounces of fish. So I usually need to eat after I eat. The proper spice package will kill the appetite. It may be good for those on a diet since it is good for you and low cal. I would change the sushi recipe a little, so it could become a good meal. I would use a larger portion of battered and fried fish, add a healthy portion of sauteed shrimp and scallops, maybe use noodles instead of rice, add more finely chopped veggies, and serve it in a burrito wrap. That sounds good!I'll take 2 orders to go, but please don't cook the "fish". :( But seriously, I love the noodle idea!Noodle sushi! Quote

Is sushi really that big of a leap? ;) Ahhh sushi! Now I'm in the mood for some salmon nigiri with a healthy dose of soy sauce mixed with wasabi, followed by pickled ginger! Quote
DFINITLYDISTRUBD Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Oddly enough yes;) (see post #72)And there are yet a few other oddities I've yet to munch. (do live goldfish count as sashimi?) Quote
Moontanman Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Yeah I like sushi, I like the little live octopus that you swallow whole and then they try to crawl back up your throat and the arms come out your nose Quote

(and wasn't meant to be implied as such) Do you mean you don't like the sensation of the little suckers on their arms sticking to the underside of your brain while the arms run all through your sinus cavities! If you eat them one about every ten minutes you can keep the sensation going for a long time! Octopus, it's running all around my brain, I have to either start taking less of it or more of it, I can't quite figure out which one:phones: Quote
DFINITLYDISTRUBD Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 Don't they have razor sharp beaks and venom?Sounds really dangerous but mostly EEew! to me. Ick! Quote
