freeztar Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Art, and quite beautiful too...Notice the smooth dowel they are attached to with what seems like regular glue... Quote
Queso Posted May 7, 2007 Author Report Posted May 7, 2007 thanks. my friend tried telling me they were real and yeah...so I walked over to Hypography.House of collective Truth and Arguments. peace Quote
Cedars Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 I think its real. If you look closely, you can see the reflection of people and structures and outdoors on the crysalis's. Looks to me like its a butterfly display, or hatching place/exhibit. Alot of those exhibits do attach the cocoon to a stick in rows like that with wax or something. And on the right side crysalis, you can see the roof of the enclosure, and on the abdomine part of that cocoon, it seems to be a moth crawling around. Quote
Cedars Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Oh, and to add more: Looking at the stick itself, the middle crysalis has the remmants of a former crysalis just to the left of its attachment. Beween the middle and the right side one, are the remmants of two other hatchings. Quote

Looks to me like its a butterfly display, or hatching place/exhibit. I will trust you on this as I know you are quite knowledgeable with insects.Alot of those exhibits do attach the cocoon to a stick in rows like that with wax or something. That's what I'd call art (manmade). And on the right side crysalis, you can see the roof of the enclosure, and on the abdomine part of that cocoon, it seems to be a moth crawling around. You see a moth crawling around?! ;) :) I wouldn't be surprised if the shells/coccoons/chrysalids are real, ie not altered by man in any way. Many insects exhibit a metallic sheen. I guess the jury's out for right now... Quote
freeztar Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Well, I just stumbled across this:pupa: Definition and Much More from Answers.com Apparently these are real. The word chrysalis comes from greek, chrysós, for gold. Quote
