Okay, a better search engine is noted. But I doubt this will be a "killer feature that makes people hangout more at Hypography"... B)

As for video in posts, that's something we can do with a vBulletin plugin I think.

One thing we DESPERATELY need is for this site to be quicker....it take me about 20 seconds to get this reply box when i click on "new repky" and otherthreads can take literlly minutes to load up....computerkick:

Your own personal, internal "bookmarking" system would be nice.

It would need to bookmark sites (that the search engine can't find) and also your favorite posts. Two types of bookmark?

How about the ability to post audio files, birdcalls for birdwatching for example.

music in music thread; Science radio;Your favorite Bushism etc I guess there would need to be some limits here.

Did you look at the enviro site. I suggested? nicely done

Hypography's strength is it's people, and how it centers itself around a theme of science and support of statements.

Tormod and the staff are trying to make the infrastructure of the site itself better, by offering new functionality and implementing suggestions which have come in since it's inception.

While the people are what drive these forums, I think Tormod is asking where you want the shift lever, and what kind of tires you want. Be as specific as possible.

I like the forum segregation, but think we could benefit by linking threads together as "cousins." So, perhaps we could have a tether from the "Do you garden" vote thread to the "Horticulture science" thread... that sort of thing.

I think it would be fun to add a variable to the user profile which shows a count of the forums in which the user posts most often... that way, we could see where the individuals primary interests are. Like Philip Small would show Terra Preta as the top forum, but Erasmus would show Physics and Math, and Orbsycli the artists weightroom...

:hihi:

ALL POWER TO THE GARDENERS!

A garden forum are we taking over Hypography?:)

The science of gardening would be nice :tree:

We also have eathworms- Vermiculture, Re: Oh wow, Time for SEX! (picture post) sorry to let the cat out of the bag);We need a trillion more indoor plants. and other rants against plastic plants;

Do You Garden??;

Pineapples and lots of other plants;

Guerrilla Gardening ;

Wetland Science ;

Is Organic Farming Feasible??

; :tree:Composting the unwanted: Feces.;

Ethnobotany ;

Home improvement: What would you do? ;

What type of agriculture should we use for what conditions?

;Cool Plants and Trees ;

What's Growing In Your Garden? Horticultural Science

;oil from plants. ;

Salt, NaCl, Sodium Chloride.

soil salinity issues ;

Space Voyage (s) hydroponics etc; Do You Garden?? ;

Home Waste Recycling ;

Herbs and Herbal Supplements

;biogas...corn?!? ;

Scientists Offer New View of Photosynthesis :tree:;Oil is NOT a fossil fuel... ;

Phytoplankton could die, therfore we die

. ;Bioelectric potential of plants ;

Environmental Study of my backyard

; adam and eve, evolution? of course a lot I've missed +ALL the theology forums were started by the prime gardener; + of course Terra preta :tree:

So you see there has been a silent revolution going on at Hypography.

So, I propose we change our name to the "Hypography Gardening Forums"

Of course, henceforth, Quirky facts and poetry will henceforth ONLY be allowed on gardening topics, Theology only on what plants were first in THE garden, :tree: physics and chemisty only on photosynthesis etc.

:)

Those who think they should rule the world, should first start a garden

(or something like that) :tree:

What browser do you use? I mostly find this site to be very fast. On occasion it is slow due to heavy traffic but I've never experienced pages that take minutes to load...

Bookmarks are something that is in the works.

How about the ability to post audio files, birdcalls for birdwatching for example.

This ability is already there. You can add audio files as attachments, or you can link to them on other servers using the tag.

I looked at it but frankly I found nothing special. What am I looking for?

Noted. Since I live in a flat I guess I'll have to buy myself a garden now. :)

Some really good suggestions in this thread.

I agree fully with the search issues. It is fustrating when you know a thread exists, who started it, and still get 7 pages of results....

If the video/sound part does become a feature I would ask that it be a clickable, open in a new window on user request type of feature. As someone who recently switched over from dial up (because I am cheap), I still have very vivid memories of the fustration from sites with video and would just close that window if not given an option to escape the downloading file.

Yes I agree.

My dial-up system just seizes up with big video files.

A warning about the size of the link would be nice.

MORE GAMES!!! :doh:

actually I don't play the games all too often so thats not very important..

I'd like to see a chat feature... :lol:

http://hypography.com/forums/chat/flashchat.php

There already is one, however, I echo some other posters sentiment that it would be nice to make the chat functionality more robust, have invites, and improved views of who's chatting.

The only point of reference I have as something toward which we can head is the AOL chat like 10 years ago. It was very enjoyable. If Hypo is to become a town square where folks hang out, we'll need multiple corner tables for real-time conversation.

It seems a selection has emerged:

1. Ratings of interesting science sites

2. Improved rep system

3. Group blogs

The mob has spoken

Yes. I have also noted the following wishes:

-better search engine

-improved chat invitation system

-video and music in posts

I better get to work then! :turtle:
