Racoon Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 I went out of my way to purchase a new IPA that was good, but on sale or a reasonable price.. FireStation 5 ! IPA. 'steam pumper' Brewed in Ukiah, CA. #1 - weak cardboard carton.. without a 12 pack bottle divider. #2 No acknowledgement of the alcohol % Not bad, Not great, but at this time its all good!! :) Quote
Turtle Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 today on my nations birfday i have chosen Full Sail IPA with which to celebrate. full bodied attack, 6% alcohol, limp on hoppy and follow-through. brewed by Full Sail in Hood River Oregon. some days, beer is beer. ;) Quote
freeztar Posted July 7, 2007 Report Posted July 7, 2007 I tried this beer on the 4th and it was so excellent I took a picture of it for posterity. Very hoppy! :) Quote
Turtle Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 :hyper: Been neglecting my dooty...ermmm...duty. Racoon San many weeks ago brought me a 24 oz. IPA from Stone. Thanks Rac. :) On the scale it rates a "meh" :(... 6.9% alcohol, promising start that fades quickly. Did I likey? Not so much. :eek2: Then a week or so after that, Racoon San brought me yet another brand I hadn't tried and I forget its name...sorry Rac. It was just "OK" as with so many of these they start well but don't linger on my palette. Sippin' gratuitous suds with a pal...priceless. Still in the lead for my hunt for the favorite IPA is Broken Halo from Widmere in Portland Oregon. Now of particular interest is that I heard night-before-last that there is a shortage of hops this year as growers cut back production due to markets previously. Much of the harvest is already let on contract so prices for the many local micro-brews in the Pacific Northwest are predicted to rise. $12.00 6-packs they say! :clock: Here's mud in your eye. Racoon Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 The brand was Terminal Gravity, and the buzz was outer-orbit. Best IPA I've had to date; will need to repeat the experiment again w/ turtle-san for further conclusion. :P Quote

I think the highest in the nine I have tried was 7 or 7.2%, but it wasn't my favorite. When I can afford some beer these days, I buy the Broken Halo IPA from Widmere brewing in Portland Oregon; it has 6% alcohol. Cheers to beers! :friday: Quote

Cheers to beers! :D today an interesting article in the "Good weekend magazine from mark Dapin. He tells me that "The Pub With No Beer" has abotique brewery attached (don't ask)They do several 'boutique beers including the Nirvana Pale AleLocals will not convert 70% still sticking to the big brands. The brewer (Shawn) said he thought this was because they had been brought up on mass-produced, force-carbonated brews and were unaccustomed to the smell of hops -or indeed the smell of anything- in a beer.Dapin goes on to say "On behalf of the tradies wearing hats on the veranda of The Pub With No Beer, I asked the question that dare not speak its name: Would drinking designer beers turn a straight man gay?" "Shawn assured me that it would not, while suggesting in the same conversation that drinkers should match their beers with appropriate cheeses"(!)Funny article page 53;) Thanks for the wiki reference on woosy beer. How come hops preserves beer? When was hops first used? Quote
