I don't understand what is going on here, The age of consent is 12? In my state, NC, it's 18 or if both are under 18 then it's two years difference or something like that. Or is this something unique to the land down under?

Since 2003 in NSW, the age of consent is 16 years for lesbians, gay men and heterosexuals.

Some Good News

The 7.30 Report - ABC

This was a fund started by Bob Brown with $20,000 US $ he won in an international environment award. It has now purchased and holds in trust a good bit of Australian Bush. The latest, a million $ gem, in Queensland.

Transcript is not up yet but worth a read when it gets there (next 24 hours?)

The Budget, The first Labor one in 11 years.

O yes, Yawn. ;)

I saw this:-

Pandas forgotten in Budget:

I thought that has to be a fun send-up with all the wingers out there saying they are 'not rich' with $150,000 a year. the sort of thing Richard Glover would write.

The "Not Rich" should try being a pensioner who got not "the smell of an oily rag" from the Federal Budget and live on about $230 a week.

Reminded me of the "Winging Pom" show ('cranky old codgers' on TV)

Anyway it turns out the Panda article is serious!!

Pandas forgotten in Budget: Oppn - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

NSW is going to sell off its State owned power stations.

I note most are surrounded by thousands and thousands of hectares of land easily developed for industry or housing. some prime waterfront. Nowadays such land development approval is up to the NSW Government not local councils. If that land is part of the privatisation deal, can we make a Hypography Corp. offer and euchre Macquarie Bank? We will be trillionaires! :hihi:

Age of consent is always a controversial thing, if you are a young man you think it should be based on looks only if you are a father you think it should be about 30. In NC the only thing that matters is the age, no accommodation is given for sexual orientation or what you believed to be true. In other words you better check their photo ID before having sex!

as a father of two girls I think 30 is a bit young unless they produce grandchildren. Then anything is OK

The States of OZ

Queensland people go here because it is warm and they want one of the three marine biologist jobs on offer.

NT (not really a state but you go there to vist Kakadu Ayres rock and get drunk

NSW You live there because you were born there but only stay if you have a shack on the harbour. Otherwise you migrate to a better state usually Qld or Tas.

VIC Who knows? They like to garden, wear leather jackets, shop and eat Greek food?

SA To retire

WA to make lots of money or to do the "Grey Nomad" trip.

ACT You are forced to live there by the government.

TAS

Now this is where almost everyone wants to live. (Due to global warming even the lobsters are moving there!)

A Mediterranean climate roses and lavender and all those 'warm fuzzy' plants grow like weeds.

Of course I have (almost) no interest in advertising this magazine on Tasmania

Hi Moontanman,

Watch out, the bastard who set up this entire disgusting situation is closer to you than to his fellow Queenslanders at the moment.

Peter Beattie buys North Carolina mountain cottage | The Courier-Mail

Ex QLD state Premier Peter Beattie has just bought a house in Brevard North Carolina! This is the person who said 'Bill Darcy (convicted child molester) is still a mate of mine, he did all of that (child molesting) before he became a politician' (my comments in brackets).

This person with poor ethical and moral values was given the position of QLD trade Commissioner to the Americas based in Los Angeles, less than a year after he resigned and said he wouldn't for at least a year.

Apparently he was trying to gain an academic position at a university in South Carolina but had no luck. Obviously they said something like 'the state you ran had abolished its senate, the State governor was your rubber stamp and you turned your Freedom Of Information laws into Freedom From Information laws to ignore abused children, what can you tell us about politics that we don't already know from studying despots?'

Please accept my sincerest apologies.

Nothing really surprises me anymore, at least he is about as far from as you can get and still be in NC.

Amnesty (Australia) has just slammed the aquital of the rape of the 10 year old girl by juveniles and adults. They say legally a 10 year old under international law cannot give permission to sex, let alone rape.

This seems a good idea.

Something has to be done about the "Testosterone Years"

This was a good news story on 7.30 report last night about a young girl winning a "brain" (Literally) competition and going to Canada for the International Finals.

Victorian school girl wins Brain Bee competition

Seventeen year old school girl, Quinn McGennisken overcame many obstacles to win the Australian Brain Bee competition. Unlike many of her competitors, she had no family history in science or medicine and no specialist tutoring to help her understand the mechanics of the brain.

Australian solar breakthrough snapped up in US

Ben Cubby, Environment Reporter

June 16, 2008

FORMER Sydney University professor Dr David Mills couldn't find funding for his giant solar power plants in Australia, but US investors had no qualms wagering at least $40 million on the idea.

Dr Mills' first factory for the mass production of "solar parks" will open in Las Vegas later this month. It hosted a gaggle of interested Australian politicians last night in Nevada, including the NSW Environment Minister, Verity Firth.

The Sydney Morning Herald: national, world, business, entertainment, sport and technology news from Australia's leading newspaper.

Another Chinese Student from Uni Of NSW has just set up a multi-million solar business in China.

Uni of NSW has been researching this area for decades.

We have the Pope here for "World Youth Day"

A PR campaign for the Catholic Church

Hurt a little by local Cardinal Pell denying that a priest had raped another man; then the priest confessed.

(Pell is also nots sure about global anthropomorphic warming)

Cardinal Pell faces new sex scandal

Jul 08 09:31am

Victims support groups are demanding Sydney Archbishop George Pell stand aside as head of the Australian Catholic Church as the controversy surrounding World Youth Day reached a new peak late last night.

The demand follows revelations of a new sex abuse scandal that has seen Cardinal Pell forced to deny deliberately misleading a man who was assaulted by a priest.

Anthony Jones was told his was the only complaint against Father Terence Goodall. But that wasn't true.

Cardinal Pell faces new sex scandal - Yahoo!7 Sunrise

Cardinal Pell also made a pronouncement that we are not having enough babies. Two hundred million a year is not enough for him (Not counting the ones who starve)

Anyway a Youth Day with no condoms should help that problem.

A lot of opposition -passing out condoms, etc but tight police restrictions in place. Including a new law against "annoying" "pilgrims".

My favourite T shirt was

"These priests

touched me

Down Under"

Then, if you wish, you can buy the sexy priest's calendar.

Hi MA,

Don't forget about the Papal Indulgence of remission of sins for everybody partaking in the activities.

Pope John Paul II

It's not surprising that our politicians are flocking to participate. But unfortunately I don't think that 'gods' satisfaction requires them to tell the truth and come clean about their dubious dealings.

Considering how their policies (all pledged under their 'god' in parliament) have neglected the children of Queensland and put them in moral danger, I think most of them will be going to the other place with their real master.

So how about the 10 year old body builder:

AdelaideNow... Concern over youngest bodybuilder

Maughan Wellham, from Thornton, near Newcastle in the Lower Hunter, took part in the Ms Fitness Australia category of the annual International Natural Bodybuilding Association's All Female Classic competition held in Victoria on Saturday.

"She showed her biceps beautifully in time to the Gladiator movie theme music. When she showed her abs and thighs, the crowd erupted.

"We're not telling girls to start heavyweight lifting. It's about fun and fitness."

It's great for 10 year olds to be fit and healthy, but body building just doesn't seem right for someone so young.
