Queso Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 check this out http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070604/ap_on_re_us/vermont_secession I don't think they'll do it....but it's an interesting concept! Some people in Vermont are trying to take the state out of the USA"peacefully, of course" what do you guys think about this? Mercedes Benzene Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 That seems like a load of bull to me. I HIGHLY doubt that there would be enough people who would actually want to leave the United States. As for the people who do think they can get Vermont to leave the US, they're just ignorant. They obviously don't know what they're doing. They wouldn't likely have the resources to survive. We'd just have a third-world country on our doorstep. Interesting though. Quote
TheBigDog Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 These folks will be seen as in an intellectual light, because of their political predominance. Socialists want to separate from the US to teach us how to do things right. How noble. Vermont is 0.2% of the US population. If Vermont were a city it would be 20th in population in the US. If there are 6863 people who sign on to this then it will represent the largest minority population in the state. 1.1% Latin/Hispanic, 1% Asian, 0.6% black, 0.4% native, 96.9% white. Much ado about nothing, but a telling commentary in the way it is being characterized. Bill Quote
Cedars Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 Sometime in the 80s, in the St Paul paper, someone suggested MN secede. People wrote in with little suggestions and comments. One that stuck with me was the suggestion that we take N. Dakota with us, cuz then we would be like the 3rd or 5th largest nuke power and it would give us leverage for negotations for better trade deals. Quote

Except that those nukes belong to (and are in the complete and total control of) the United States. :hihi: Quote

freeztar Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 Well, as a native Georgian, I can say for fact that secession does not work. At least, it didn't for the old Georgians. :) VT MN ND ;) I'm starting to suspect that the Canadians are involved in this. :hihi: Quote
