IMAMONKEY! Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 I am going to give you as much information as I can, but I dont know anything about this problem so... i came here. I turned on my laptop recently and than later hit Shut down. while it did this It was also downloading Windows updates. I left to go to swim practice and came back to find the entire thing unresponsive and jsut blank. I turned it off manually (held in the power button) and then turned it back on... that is where my troubles began... It started up normally.. Windows XP logo and everything... then a blue screen came up saying: Error c000021a {Fatal System Error} and it froze... I couldnt do anything except manually turn it off again... I queried Windows support and it said this meant my FQDN (Fully qualified Domain Name) was more than 200 "somethings" long. It stated i needed to change it and shorten it. I have no idea what in the hell an FQDN is or how the hell I'm supposed to change it. So now I'm stuck with a completely useless Dell Insiron B130 and I cant even log in to try and solve the problem... I thought booting up in safe mode might work but I have no idea how to boot up in Safe Mode on Windows XP. Help?!??! Please!!!!? Quote
Jay-qu Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 hit F8 at startup for the options - try "most recent config that worked" I dont know if safe mode will fix it.. Quote
IMAMONKEY! Posted June 7, 2007 Author Report Posted June 7, 2007 ok. that didnt work. most recent config and safe mode, neither one worked... I just need to know how to change my FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name)... whatever that is. ;) I still need a lil help.. anyone on here a techie? Quote
Jay-qu Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Im sure ERD commander could do it, if you got hold of a copy - its hard to find these days though.. Quote
Tormod Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 I don't think the FQDN is your problem. Sounds more like something happened to your system while you shut it down, and now it can't log onto it's own domain. I think you're looking at a complete reinstall, but read this first: How to troubleshoot a "STOP 0xC000021A" error Quote
jackson33 Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 disconnect your keyboard. you may have a sticking key. if this not the problem then go to system tools and system restore. go back to before the problem started. your updates will repeat and nothing is lost in the process. Quote

InfiniteNow Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 How to configure DFS to use fully qualified domain names in referrals or more here: Search Results No offense intended, but thus far in this thread you strike me as the type who should get someone qualified to help you fix this. Check out the above first, but the only "giving up" you should do is to ask for help from someone near you. :D Cheers. Quote
Tormod Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 one tiny problem there... my.. disk drive is broken... Drive hardware problems is a good sign that you need to stop using your computer and take it to a service center. If your harddrive is failing you might be in luck and they might be able to recover your data. If however you keep trying to fix it, you may just make it worse! (I've been there, done that) :D Not fun. Quote
