Buffy Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 Yikes! We have a closed poll on the home page! Can't have that! SO...I'm asking here what kinds of *activities* you like to do when you do science. This is not *necessarily* tied to a particular branch of science, but I think there are some interesting trends to be found here. Feel free to comment on why in a post! No blood,Buffy Quote

No blood,Buffy I'm trying to make a warp engine....so I can get off this planet!!! Quote
freeztar Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 I chose "messing with squishy things" because it was the closest fit. As an Ecologist, I examine (mess with) plants (squishy things) quite often. :friday: My real answer would be more like...A Walk/hike through unexplored woods and hills is my preferred scientific activity. Quote
freeztar Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 I also enjoy cold glances through a telescope and a rocky encounter with some gemmy constituent. It's all about water though...SQUISH! Quote
Buffy Posted June 13, 2007 Author Report Posted June 13, 2007 I also enjoy cold glances through a telescope and a rocky encounter with some gemmy constituent. That's "Looking at pretty things." Actually so is:...Walk/hike through unexplored woods and hills......unless you're really focused on the walk and where you're going in which case that's more the enjoyable side effect rather than the science itself (which I enjoy too!).... The vultures fly around me, come and take me home, :phones:Buffy Quote
Jay-qu Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 Sorry just had to go with blowing stuff up :D closely followed by number crunching :phones: Quote

I'm a terrible hiker. I get too distracted. :phones: Quote
Turtle Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 as a generalist, it's a tough choice. i went with #2, 'Mixing stuff to make other stuff.' as the phrase is plastic enough to include the other choices. where's dat turtle goin' wit all dat stuff‽ if squishy stuff is de rigueur, then squishy stuff it be;but if number stuff is counted on,then it's number stuff for me.now rocks & mining stuff i've found, gots stuff to blow it free, the stuff called chunks that's left about, make art stuff gladdening we.:phones: Jay-qu 1 Quote
Tormod Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 I enjoy reading about science. That's about as close to "doing science" I get. :phones: Quote
Mercedes Benzene Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 Well.... I chose "blowing stuff up" because the results are often the most enjoyable, but it was truly tough choosing just one. The other one I would have chosen without hesitation would have been "mixing stuff to get other stuff". Thinking back now, that probably would have been a better choice, since you can blow stuff up by mixing stuff together. Oh well. :phones: Quote
sanctus Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 fiddling with code and numbers...comes with my choice of theoretical physics...For my master thesis now I have to modify the biggest code I've ever seen, cmbeasy if you want to see it (downloadable at CMBEASY)And that is also what i should be doing now, instead of writing here. So back to work... Quote
Guest chendoh Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 I'm trying to make a warp engine....so I can get off this planet!!! I chose mixing to make other 'stuff'. Like Jungjedi, I feel that there is sufficient resources here on Terra, to create a higher form of propulsion, and that its energies could also be tamed to use as 'service energies' for human consumption, to enhance our way of life...;) If I only knew what combinations worked...:cup: Right now I'm working on Energizing, Diamonds, and Quartz. I abhor:Big OilUtilitiesUncontrolled Government, i.e. Bureaucracy. Unfortunatly, I/we/us, inherited this rut, that's lower than Whale S*h*t, and it's going to take a long time/eons? to climb out. Notice; At no time were any whales harmed in the production of this post...:) Quote
Erasmus00 Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 I chose other. I like making theoretical models to match experimental details. I just don't like the nitty gritty building of the experiment. I think this is a bit different than messing with numbers/code. (In fact, I despise programming, though this seems to be 90% of what I do with my time lately.) -Will Quote
Guest chendoh Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 :weather_storm:Now if I could only harness the power of this approaching Thunderstorm, :rain:..;):rain: :cup: instead of the 200amp service I have! :lightning :rain: :) :lightning:weather_hot: I need to power down, before I crash... :dust::crash: Back in an hour, Maybe I'll have TBD's Lightning shot...:lightning Quote
