Well we have some leftover ideas for next month's contest, but I'd like to contribute a new idea that popped into my head while reading the UFOs thread...

Pictures of *faked* UFOs or other "unexplained" phenomena. You must have taken it yourself, and have staged it (or had a friend or someone you know stage it), so that it is known to be faked.

This means that Turtle can't submit his actual photos of Sasquatch, but he can submit photos of Racoon in a Sasquatch outfit (and it would be interesting to compare the two! :read: ).

We might want to do this for July so that people have some time to prepare their gizmos....

Creative science,

Buffy

Edit: I merged the two discussion threads, so the discussion from mine starts here. All new posts will continue as normal.

Since I finally got the May Photo Contest results up, it's time to start thinking about the next one.

We decided that it would be good to do an extended contest. I hesitate to call it a "Summer Contest", since it's not summer everywhere in the world right now.

So I'm thinking of a contest that would run from now (June) through the end of August.

Suggetions for themes?

I guess this kind of parralels Buffy's "June Contest Ideas" thread, but more appropriate if we are to have an extended contest (which sounds good to me).

Brainstorming for themes:

Ecology (this differs from the broader "Nature" theme as it involves interaction(s) between two or more living beings)

Flowers

Water

Reactions (could range from Chemistry to facial expressions)

Harnessing Nature (eg. hydroelectric dams, fire, etc.)

Famous Places

It might be a good idea to consider multiple themes to encourage a larger portion of Hypo to participate. They could be related or completely different.

I completely missed Buffy's thread. :(

I do not think it would be a good idea to have multiple topics for one contest. It takes away from the focus. As for encouraging more people to participate.... that's what the increased length hopes to achieve.

I agree that multiple diverse topics is not the way to go. I did say that they could be "related or different", but I was brainstorming and just threw "different" in there.

Alas, If you consider a topic such as "Nature", having multiple themes could actually create focus (example: "Birds, Insects, and Plants").

Of course, if the topic is at just the right balance of breadth, then my suggestion is moot. Hopefully this thread accomplishes that. :friday:

We need some more discussion folks! If you do not have suggestions, then which theme(s), so far, do you favor?
