redTurtledove71 Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Greetings, I am not a science buff per se. I'm a fan but mostly I see science as a means to an end. In my particular case, it's usually because I am trying to create something. For whatever reason I tend to use materials in unusual ways. I always seem to stump the staff at the local home improvement center. I found my way to this site because I have been searching for information on whirligigs (buzz-saws, horizontal tops, buttons on a string) forever, or at least a few years anyway. I guess I just wasn't using the correct words for my search because I kept ending up at garden sites that offered "great deals" on lawn ornaments. So today it occurred to me to just search for "button on string" and I found this great thread on this site: hypography.com/forums/gallery...c=3&userid=796 only the thing is I cannot access it. Hence my frustration. All I want to do is create cool, arty farty tops. But I keep running into brick walls, metaphorically speaking. Seriously. The top three sites in my Google search were busts. This is the best lead I've had and so far I can't read the info I want. Any help would be much appreciated. General info on me: I have 1 kid, I'm female, I'm a fiber artist, I live in the States, and I think my grasp of general science issues is better than the average bear but that ain't sayin' much. As for my user name it breaks down like this: red is my favorite color, turtles are my favorite creatures, dove relates to my given name, and I was born in 1971. Plus I can remember it and it is never taken. Quote
Tormod Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 The link you have pasted is not a link to a thread but to a picture in our gallery. If you get a message that you cannot access it, it was probably deleted by the image owner (if I recall correctly the Button on a string photo was by our member, Turtle). Welcome to Hypography! We are glad to have you here, and hope we can help you with your creative endeavours. Quote
Tormod Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 By the way, you might find this thread interesting: http://hypography.com/forums/physics-mathematics/1228-spinning-button-string.html Quote
Tormod Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Oh wait...I see now - you *did* find that thread but Turtle's link is broken. You can post a request for him to reupload his image. Quote
