I dont think I was changing the subject. You mentioned the difficulty of fully translating language, this is only one aspect, the Bible is a collection of myths from a culture quite different from ours.

It is a great sadness that so much killing,torture,racial cleansing, destruction and burning of books has been done because people believed that the Bible(any version) was written by god.

I'll just keep Jesus's "Sermon on the Mount" the rest can go to hell where it probably came from and certainly deserves to go.

(NO, I am not a religious loony I am an atheist)

Oh sorry. I think I read your question as rhetorical. I wouldn't call it a collection of myths exactly. There's creation, the flood, and the Red Sea stories, but there's also poetry/wisdom books, lineages, laws, and histories.
