Driving Between States

I currently have a Limited Provisional License.My question is, can I drive to South Carolina & Georgia(I live in North Carolina) with my L.P.L.? I have found the laws concerning L.P.L.s, but no where do they mention driving out-of state.

I can drive from 5am-9am, to or from work any time, and to or from a volunteer squad event at any time. If I follow those rules do you believe I would be okay?

IANAL and YMMV, but:

 

The "full-faith and credit" clause of the constitution would require the other states to recognize the license, but they can apply their own laws for the "comparable" license classes, and there may be restrictions that they have that your own state does not (e.g. a curfew or requirement that a licensed driver be in the car), and they can ticket you or even confiscate your license if you break the local laws.

 

What I'd really worry about is your insurance company: with the virutally complete removal of regulation over the past few years, its quite likely that your insurance company added all sorts of limitations of liability, one of which might be that anyone with a limited license can't drive out of state.

 

The latter problem is likely to be much worse than the former one. You'd be advised to check with your insurance company directly before you do anything....

FWIW, in Georgia you can only have family members as passengers during the first 6 months of receiving your license following the learners permit. I would expect that Georgia would likely treat your license the same.
