I would like to start off by saying that this is something i think about. What make the government think that they own me or outer space, if a guy built "a spaceship" what right doe's the us or any government have to come on your own land and treat you like you made a wmd. I'm not that smart but out there in this world is a guy that could bulit his own spaceship.

The Constitution and Bill of Rights are built around the notion that you ought to be able to do anything you want as long as it does not infringe on other people's rights.

Building your own spaceship starts infringing on those rights:

  • Rocket fuel can easily blow up your neighbor's house along with your own.
  • If you try to launch it from your backyard, its got to pass through airspace that is open to general aviation or even commercial transport, and might just take some plane down.
  • Near Earth Orbit is getting crowded, and without coordination, you could run into a Shuttle, or the Space Station.
  • If your rocket blew up in orbit, it would litter Near Earth Orbit with lots of dangerous projectiles.
  • Where are you going to land to make sure you don't land *on* someone?

Lawyers would have a field day with your liability: thus to a certain extent, its not the Government that's the obstacle, its other citizens who would sue your pants off if you damaged their property or killed their cows--although in many cases we have laws prohibiting what you want to do simply in order to pre-empt such civil action from ever occurring.

Government is not inherently evil, no matter what the RNC says,
