Mercedes Benzene Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 Whenever I see a clip of a film studio, or someone directing a movie, etc, the director (or one of the other film lackies) always seems to hold up a gadget to the person before being filmed. Does anyone know what it is? My best guess was some sort of light meter or something... but I want to know exactly what it does. It usually appears as a small gadget, maybe about the size of a camera, with a white circular instrument at the top. Just curious... Quote
Buffy Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 White bulb thingy: yah, that's a light meter. They still use tape measures for focus pulling too... Quiet on the set,Buffy Mercedes Benzene 1 Quote
Mercedes Benzene Posted July 16, 2007 Author Report Posted July 16, 2007 Success! Thanks Buffy! So, what exactly are light meters used for? It seems like such a magical device. I picture it informing you "okay. the light is good. shoot."...but I have a feeling that's not exactly how it works. :hihi: I just found a link after searching "director's light meter". The reason I couldn't find it before was that I just googled "light meter", and that turned up nothing. :lol:Spectra Cine, Inc -Spectra Professional IV-A (The Most Accurate Meter Ever Built) Quote
Buffy Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 Um, setting the shutter speed and the f-stop...haven't you ever used an SLR camera? Film (and actually video) is the same thing... Why the heck is this in Computer Science? :hihi: Clapper,Buffy Quote
Mercedes Benzene Posted July 16, 2007 Author Report Posted July 16, 2007 Why the heck is this in Computer Science? Under the description of the forum it says "gadgets". :hihi:Sorry. Quote
Buffy Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 We should probably fix that description...there's a relatively new forum called "Technology and Gadgets" now... Frobbing the widget,Buffy Quote
Mercedes Benzene Posted July 16, 2007 Author Report Posted July 16, 2007 True.... I guess I forgot about it. Thanks for moving it. Quote
