Could you write a description for it so I can understand how it would be a science forum (as opposed to just a forum for anything garden-related)?

Haha... That's a bit dirty. :fire:

I didn't really think of it as a science based forum. Sort of like the History forum, or the Artist's Weightroom, or Music, or Books/Movies/Games forums. Just a place for people to discuss an interest which is common to many of us.

If you require it be scientific only, I'm afraid the idea will not be able to make the cut. If you require only that our members would enjoy and greatly contribute to it, and that it might attract several new members to our ranks, then it has a real chance. :turtle:

Cheers. :ideamaybenot:

I think that's more of a function of where its going to go: you asked explicitly for it to be a sub-forum of Earth Science, which does indeed up the standards to being "science-related."

OTOH, something less scientific could fit in one of our less-sciencey areas, but as you've seen in the past, some "hot" topics just never quite take off like they might seem to promise (no names!).

It would be a good exercise to walk through what you really think it is and what kinds of topics it would draw...

Agreed, and understood. To be frank, I wasn't requesting it for myself. I've just encountered several of our members who seem to imply this would be a good thing, something they'd enjoy. So, me being the vocal SOB I am decided to start a thread on it. My take is, put it wherever you want. Doesn't matter to me much.

Maybe other members would discuss how THEY would use such a forum IF it were created? Bear in mind, the staff is trying to decide best where to "house" it, and my suggestion of "Earth Science" implies more science than general discussion. :fire:

At least you're paying attention. :ideamaybenot:

I think "Earth Science" is not the correct placement for a gardening forum. I think it would belong more in a "Leisure/hobbies" forum myself. And I wouldn't mind seeing it here at Hypo.

I agree completely with your logic, and am excited to hear that you like the idea. The Earth Science suggestion was more related to the Terra Preta discussions already going on as a subset of Earth Science. :)

Juggling, eh? :)
