Thisbigone Posted February 4, 2003 Report Posted February 4, 2003 Well now, There is alot of debate on the fact of whether there really are mutations in the vast planet or if they are just a facet of a philosophers imagination/reason. To tell the truth, there are mutants everywhere. This ranges from The Phychic, to the Six Toed Seven fingured variety. If you wish to inquire more, or disagree whether there really are phychic people, six toed seven fingured people and the rest, feel free to discuss. Evolution says that Animals/Mammals/insects/bugs/single-celled organisms etc. evolve and mutate to meet survivals requirements. In this earth, dark skinned people are dark because their ancestors spent alot of time hunting and scrummiging for food, in the sun. If you do not believe this either, then you can prove it by flying 50,000 light years into space and using you super high tech telescope to look back at the planet 50,000 years ago. (In theory this works) So maybe we should think about what mutations will come from our actions and environment today. Maybe you could imagine a Carbon Dioxide/monoxide breathing human? Arthur
Tormod Posted February 4, 2003 Report Posted February 4, 2003 Hi!If you do not believe this either, then you can prove it by flying 50,000 light years into space and using you super high tech telescope to look back at the planet 50,000 years ago. (In theory this works) Just to set things straight: If you travel 50,000 light years into space and look back on the Earth (with a super high tech telescope, of course), you'll see the Earth as it looks 50,000 years from now plus the time you spend going there (a couple of million years, with some adjustment for relativity). To see the Earth as it looked 50,000 years ago, you'd have to travel instantly (or at least faster than the speed of light) to a place 50,000 light years away. And you'd need a darn good telescope to see the Earth...50,000 light years is halfway across the Milky Way... Now, for the real mutants...they exist, no doubt. Did you read the hypography on mutants? (In theory this works) Arthur I would like to make a small but essential correction: Black people in Africa evolved this way not due to their repeated skin tan generation after generation, but because the small minority among them that bore the genes expressing lighter skin complexion did not survive the aggressive sun rays and they usually died before their sexually mature age, hence there were no children. The genes mention above were still in the gene pool of the population (they were suppressed by the environmental factors until our ancestors finally moved to northern areas where the “black” genes did not have an advantage.
Lord Henry Wotton Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 You could've just said "Natural Selection" and made us all warm and fuzzy inside.
