My name is Hill (real name) so no need to explain it I guess.

I found out about your forum from a link posted by Tortuga_Jorge, who may or may not have a connection to Turtle here. We were exchanging comments about a possible meteor crater in Northern Mexico (Google Earth Community: Impact crater in Chihuahua Mexico) (It seems I can't post links yet so I guess you will have to figure it out for yourself. :turtle: :hihi:

I was first attracted there because of my interest in maps, science, and the world in general. I tend to spend lots of time there perusing the globe and moderating the forum. I've worked as a naturalist and a classroom teacher. Any kind of science, but particularly natural science, interests me. I have a fairly good grasp of those areas, but am constantly finding out that I have only scratched the surface. hypography.com seems like a good place to learn a bit more and to share my knowledge and opinions. I plan to lurk for a while and just become more familiar before I participate much. ;)

Welcome to Hypography, Hill!

I helped our resident crater-finder get KML to work here with Google Earth, and a lot of us would love more links posted to those threads!

Any friend of El Tortuga is a friend of mine...

Have fun!

Hill, thanks for becoming a sponsor!

You can post links after reaching ten posts, it's simply a measure we have added to remove spamming - and it has helped tremendously.

You can actually post links if you drop the Vivio Calendar in front of the link (I think) and then a moderator can go in and fix it. Or you can just send me a PM and I will be happy to post the link for you.

To reach 10 posts you nee to spend about 20 minutes going through our forums an responding to interesting threads - the Watercooler is a great place to start for that. ;) You'll be there in no time, even as a lurker.

Welcome Hill!

It's always good to see a naturalist around these parts. :D

B) Hi Hill! What a pleasant surprise. No need keeping you in any suspense, my name is Turtle..., Roger..., Jorge..., etcetera; none of them my real name. :D

Thanks for all your help over @GEC; everything I tried to do over there I have tried to learn from these folks here. Here's that link. >> Google Earth Community: Impact crater in Chihuahua Mexico

Outstanding. I hope you find this place a welcome adjunct.

On the crater topic, I turned on the layer with the meteorite database and there are so many across Mexico that the crater is actually conspicuous for the absence of meteorite finds in its interior. Then there is the thought too that the structure is old and well preserved because it was buried and is only now more recently (geologically speaking) weathering out. :turtle:

Anyway, thanks again for the help and nice to see you here. :hihi:

It's been about a week. I just wanted to post a thank you for your warm greetings and help. There's lots to learn here and I have a few things to share. I still have to figure out a few posting peculiarities (compared to what I'm used to). Feel free to PM me if I make any unforgivable posting etiquette mistakes. If you ever decide to join the GEC forum, just drop me a PM and let me know you've arrived. :bounce:
