sanctus Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 Happy friday everyone! I know for you it may not be friday, but for me it is the first friday since weeks, this because I just sent my master thesis to my profs (actually 3 days before the official deadline, but 1 after mine...). Now eventually I can work a bit less and make a short week-end in the middle of the week. Just hope not to relax too much because in ten days I have to present my work orally and that sort of counts half of the grade. Well, thanks for listening, because I wanted to tell someone that I finished, my girlfriend is working so you are the victims...:) :) Turtle 1 Quote
eric l Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 So the German word "Feierabend" fits perfectly. Happy Feierabend then.In English that would translate as "holiday eve" or something like that. Quote
Mercedes Benzene Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 Congratulations Sanctus!!It must feel good to have accomplished something so important! Quote
DougF Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 yes Congratulations Sanctus!! And happy Friday! I hope you are having a relaxing vacation and good luck in the presentation of your work I know you will be marvelous Quote
sanctus Posted August 24, 2007 Author Report Posted August 24, 2007 Thanks all. DougF, I hope so, but at the moment I find it hard to concentrate but still half of the presentation is ready. Next friday will be the big day, just hope my girlfriend can get along with me until then... Quote
DougF Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 Why would she give up on you now in your moment of greatness. :eek_big: Quote
InfiniteNow Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 Way to go Sanctus! Don't worry about your girlfriend. Just take a deep breath and get yourself ready for the oral defense. There will be plenty of "girlfriend" time after, and hopefully she will understand that. Best of luck mate, and a huge congratulations on what you've already completed. Quote
Jay-qu Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 Great work Sanctus  may I ask what your theses was written about? Quote
sanctus Posted August 26, 2007 Author Report Posted August 26, 2007 just the title as I don't have much time:Analysis of the possibilities to explain CMB anisotropies with seeds using CMBeasy Guess that is quite cryptique, also because you don't dinf much info on seeds on the net, but you find some looking for a type of seeds called topological defects. Quote
Jay-qu Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 I have heard that first theses end up been on something really obscure, but that is really criptic sure sounds interesting though - will we be able to read it once its been marked? Quote
DougF Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Yes I think it would be a very, very interesting read, And would like the opportunity to read it, if you feel so inclined. (if you don't want to post you could PM me a copy) Take a deep breath, and focus (you'll do just fine). ... Quote
sanctus Posted August 27, 2007 Author Report Posted August 27, 2007 I will send it to you, you're lucky that Idecided to write it in english and not french (even if you have not studied physics it may still seem french , I know Jay studies physics but I don't know about you Dougf... Quote
eric l Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 I will send it to you, you're lucky that Idecided to write it in english and not french (even if you have not studied physics it may still seem french , I know Jay studies physics but I don't know about you Dougf... Writing a PHD thesis in English seems to be current practice now. My son did the same thing some years ago. It does help for making the work more widely known, but still I consider it a bit of a loss for the other languages. Translating of course is a hell of a job, too. I made my own translations (for sorter papers) so I know, and I always needed extra help with German grammar. Did you also have to provide extensive summaries in other languages (like my son did)? Go for it with you defense! Quote
sanctus Posted August 27, 2007 Author Report Posted August 27, 2007 Actually Eric, it is still only my master thesis...I didn't need to give summaries in other languages, a part that the presentation will be in french and it was quite hard to translate some things, like for example "spherically expanding shell"... InfiniteNow Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 How did the oral defense go? Quote
DougF Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 sanctusI will send it to you' date=' you're lucky that Idecided to write it in english and not french (even if you have not studied physics it may still seem french , I know Jay studies physics but I don't know about you Dougf...[/quote'] Thanks sanctus I have some formal training in physics although I know I would not hold a candle to you. and I'm sure that some or all of your master thesis might seem a Little French to me :estrange: But I'm not scared the magic of knowledge is an open mind and the willingness to learn what you do not already know.If I find myself in water to deep you'll be the first to know. :coffee_n_pc: ..
