Dale Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 Hello! There is a lot of material on the Web about the Missoula Floods and about activity to promote awareness and understanding of the phenomenon.Since I apparently can’t include hyperlinks in this “introduction” message, I will try another way to suggest some of the most important sites---use the information given here to do an Advanced Search on Google. The active organization on the Missoula Floods topic is the Ice Age Floods Institute. In the IAFI site, in the Resources and Links section, there is a chronological bibliography (as well as a conventional bibliography) of the published professional literature on the Missoula Floods. And the IAFI Store has books and videos for sale, for the general public. The National Park Service conducted a Special Resource Study on the presentation of the floods, across the four-state area. The report recommended the creation of the Ice Age Floods National Geologic Trail. The full report (in both HTML and PDF formats) is on the NPS site---add /iceagefloods to the NPS address. Currently there are two identical bills in Congress (HR 450 and S 268) to designate (authorize) the Trail. Information on the bills, including co-sponsorship and status, is available from the Library of Congress site (“Thomas”).The full story of the Missoula Floods is still being developed, with on-going research. The story and the landscape are fascinating. Quote
eric l Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Welcome Dale Just Googling "Missoula Floods" gave me 330,000 links ! Frankly, I'm drowning (excuse the pun). Good thing you mentioned the Ice Age Floods Institute: Welcome (hey, here's your hyperlink posted - as I said, you're welcome) Well, now I'll start reading - but taking the Wikipedia article first.
