Welcome, dr_bilge,

there is a good deal of science here. Also a fair amount of speculation. Indeed, there is a significant amount of fabulation, and even a smidgeon of stupidification. We do try to encourage the former and limit the latter. Right now, I'm holding court on the nature of energy. That will drop you in the middle of the thread and you can back up toward the beginning if you wish.
