php111 Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Hi, I always wanted to take a Chemistry class but didn't know what is required or how hard is it. What is required in General Chemistry 1? Does it get into alot of College Algebra? or what Algebra does it get into? What kind of chemistry equations are used in the USA? Is it a fun class? Does it require a graphing calculator? If so what model of the TI? Quote
Mercedes Benzene Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Any beginning college leve chemistry course is going to involve basic algebra skills... no more that what you learn in high school. Math is a fairly large part of general chem. however, so be prepared. I took a college level chemistry class in high school, and it was not that bad. Be prepared to learn a lot of formulas. Nothing is too extreme, but it will be fairly new. You really do need a graphing calculator, but it doesn't have to be very fancy. I would suggest a TI-83+ or TI-84. If you use one more advanced than those, your professor may not be able to tell you how to use it iproperly as many courses are based around those two calculators. As for how fun it is: that's a m atter of personal opinion, but I LOVE chemistry, so it was very fun for me. Hope you enjoy it! Quote

I had Algebra 1 in High School but I don't remember it. I took a test at the college and I was placed in pre algebra. I do have a TI 83+ Silver. Quote
