Mercedes Benzene Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 Does anyone know of any good (and free) chemical structure modeling software. I don't want something too lame...but are there any good freeware programs that allow for molecluar modeling.Any suggestions would be appreciated. Something that makes:-Molecular formula models-3D space filling models Either of those (or both) would be great! Quote
eric l Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 I remembered seeing things made with VMD and found you this link :VMD - Visual Molecular Dynamics I admit that I never used it myself, I don't have the slightest idea of the amount of work it involves for the user. Quote
Mercedes Benzene Posted September 3, 2007 Author Report Posted September 3, 2007 Thanks for the suggestion eric, but that program seems to be used for viewing molecules only, and not creating them. I did find two programs that looked real interesting however. After downloading them yesterday, I'm hooked, and they're really good for creating and beautifully rendering molecules and proteins. If anyone else is interested, here they are:SiriusArgusLab Molecular Modeling and Drug Docking Software Quote
JackOfTraDeZ Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 if you are talking about REAL molecular modelling (conformational analysis, energy minimization, etc) you are not going to get any freeware. this is serious professional software and it costs a lot. i have used it, most of it runs on unix/linux OS and computers much more powerful than personal PC. the chemdraw program in wide use in industry does some basic modelling, a personal license is several hundred dollars. in any event, you will not get too far with even a hi-end desktop PC. this stuff requires major hardware to get anything useful Quote
Mercedes Benzene Posted September 3, 2007 Author Report Posted September 3, 2007 As I mentioned above, I have found just what I was looking for. :eek_big: Quote
