robnibg Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 Anyone know any decent metal/rapcore/hard rock bands? Please name them...I'm getting a bit bored of Nickelback, Saliva, CXT, Zebrahead and Korn. Quote
sanctus Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Old ones I love are Sepultura (Chaos AD, Roots)Dimmu Borgir (more death metal, but "enterthone Darkness triumphant" (or something like that) is really great)Megadeth is a bit soft but I like itHalloween as well a bit soft but quite cool (they have many but not all are cool)Pantera (some songs) you may also want to look at therion, In Extremo, tiamat andlife of agony... Lacrimosa is absolutely great but many texts are in german I do not know the newer bands but I hope you find something you like Eventually if you want some real Trash look for The great Kat Quote
Mercedes Benzene Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Well, it's not exactly hard rock, but my favorite punk-rock band is Alkaline Trio. Their music might just be dark and depressive enough to suit your desires. If you want something a little more "metal", I like the band Bullet for My Valentine. They might be worth checking out. gingakat Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 Have you ever listen Def Leppard or Led Zepplin or Pink Floyed???? I think their all great. If you like really classic metal, listen to some work from Iron Butterfly. They're pretty good. Quote
gingakat Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 Right now, I'm not listening to anything... Quote
Queso Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 I used to love metal. Then I started to actually understand music. The Mudvayne album LD50 has some awesome drum/bass lines.Trippy lyrics, too. There's even some excepts from McKenna "Yes we are an ape with a symbiotic relationship to a mushroomand that is what has given us self reflection, language, religionand all the spectrum of emotions that stem from these things. It feels good to blast intense music. Quote
Inter.spem.et.metum Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 Tool is definitely a winner. Favorite band EVER. Try clutch, its a bit of a required taste. Heavy metal: As I lay dying and Veara are VERY hard Quote
Tarantism Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Circle takes the Square is some intense, technical thrash. Quote
Tarantism Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 I used to love metal. Then I started to actually understand music. I want you to explain to me what "understanding music" is. Quote
Queso Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 I want you to explain to me what "understanding music" is. Are you serious? :D Why are you asking me this, Josh?Seems like a pretty dumb question to me. I don't understand music.(that's why I produce it)ok? :) You know exactly what I mean. Why are you provoking me with your passion?I expanded my awareness for what music actually is and means to me.Broke it down into sections, like:Timbreresonancedynamicsvibrationnoteslidetime signaturestringharmonychordappregio scaleetc. Rather than "hearing music" I now hear almost precisely how it comes to be.All the instruments. The key changes. The effects, and mastering techniques, etc. An understanding is obviously subjective to an observer. Like me, like you,we both understand music differently. Is that what you wanted to hear? What did you want out of a question like that? Yes Josh I know you've grown up and are better at "understanding music" than you used to be good for you! It's really a great thing we can do on this Earth with our bodies and our minds. This is my little understanding of the music that we are.Hope that answers your question. If not, just ask yourself. You had the answer all along. Quote
Tarantism Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 haha My point (which I am pretty sure you missed) was that people who "understand" the technical aspects of music theory and how music is created, produced and recorded have such an elitest attitude towards people who like some kinds of music. Not to say that they don't "know" more about music, but as you stated these things are objective. My problem was that with your original post you hinted at condisendance towards that kind of music which you enjoyed until you "actually understood" what music was. You're a smart guy. You can firgure out what this suggests. P.S. Taking pathetic pot shots at me does nothing to better yourself or what you have to say. So why don't you grow up? :D Queso 1 Quote
