Queso Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 I just bought a digital ph meter and it tells me I need to recalibrate it once a month. I googled the term and found nothing useful. What does it mean to recalibrate this little device? :esmoking: Quote
Mercedes Benzene Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 You need to give it a sample solution to base it's calculations off of. So, what you want to google is "buffer solutions". You usually need to give it more than 1 sample (2 or 3 of varying pHs is preferable) so that it can function properly. Hope that helps. :esmoking: Queso 1 Quote

The frequency of calibration depend on the type of usage and therefore the accuracy needed. We calibrate once a day for process control, but if you do not need 0.05 pH accuracy, once a month might be OK. Just follow the probe storage instructions in the manual. How you store the probe is very important as it is filled with either a 3Molar or a saturated KCl solution. This is open to the atmosphere through a sinter glass membrane and can change in concentration if some water evaporate. Quote
