wigglieverse Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 Hi, I'm brand new here. I'm looking for discussions on pretty much anything that looks at our view of, or what we really think about when we say "information" or "logic", and also stuff like our ideas of nullity and infinity, and about the mass/energy equivalent of quantum information, and entropy: both thermodynamic and expansion(cosmic)-wise, and the interactions between photons and matter waves also high-energy stuff, black holes and our place among the whole show, sort of stuff. I have a first deg. (B.Sc.) so far but am hoping to return to complete a grad qual. I have some courses (mostly Computer, but one grad one on parallel computing) and I am also interested therefore in informatic models of things (like entropy, black holes, supernovae, us, etc.). Not really any adv. math but have done transforms. I understand what math is for, though so I can read a paper and understand what they are looking at, or talking about, even if I don't really follow the path they took, type of thing. I enjoy music and am fond of the fin-de-siecle stuff (Debussy, Ravel, Tschaikowsky, etc.) See ya's Quote

InfiniteNow Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 A word of caution to the staff. This user was just suspended from another science forum (under a different username), so will likely be posting here more frequently during his suspension. His suspension resulted from the repeated misrepresentation of people's posts, ignoring all but a few lines of overall responses and then nit picking single words within those few lines, and then making up definitions to words and ignoring counter points. Then, after sufficient time has passed, points which have already been refuted come back up as if they were always valid. He argues that science is a belief system no different than religion (instead of science being a method), he argues that evolution has an agent behind it and shows "purpose," and despite statements that he does not ascribe to any particular religion, his actions closely parallel those of a creationist. In other words, he was suspended for trolling. Good luck, and enjoy. :hihi: Quote
