Queso Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Terror watch list swells to more than 755,000 - USATODAY.com The government's terrorist watch list has swelled to more than 755,000 names, according to a new government report that has raised worries about the list's effectiveness. I have a friend who is on this list because he's a political activist. Don't know 'bout you but I find that rather disturbing. Quote
Racoon Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Yeah, but you're safer now than before 9/11 :hal_skeleton: *sarcastic tone* Quote
LaurieAG Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 I have a friend who is on this list because he's a political activist. Don't know 'bout you but I find that rather disturbing. Hi Orb, What I really find disturbing is that someone I know travelled extensively around the world for 10 years on business with a passport that technically never should have been issued because of cancelled citizenship due to a misunderstanding about Australia's then (nonexistent) dual nationality laws. While the person gained approximately 1 million frequent flyer points on the (unknown to the person) dodgy passport including many trips through the USA (several post 9/11), not once was this picked up until the person tried to renew the passport and was told that it should have never been issued in the first place to someone who (then) was not a citizen of the country. When you consider the extreme gravity of this innocent offence and the amount of money spent by the US (and note that mainly criminals have been caught) you really begin to wonder about where the 'terror' bit comes into play. Queso Posted November 1, 2007 Author Report Posted November 1, 2007 It comes into play when you want to scare a mass amount of people. How do I gain access to this list?Is it legally available to view? Quote
LaurieAG Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 How do I gain access to this list?Is it legally available to view? No Orb, It seems that reducing 'collateral damage' wasn't one of the aims of the designers of the watch list. Also, any 'terrorist' watch list list that contains the names of US senators who voted against the war on Iraq, proves that it is a purely political device devised by political creatures to terrorise their own people. Queso Posted November 1, 2007 Author Report Posted November 1, 2007 I agree! It's dead obvious to me.That's why I wanted to see "the list"that some people are talking about. Quote
modest Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 I am imagining that right about now there's a low level flunkie working under Cheney in the depths of the pentagon reading this... and putting all our names on the watchlist. :phones: Quote
InfiniteNow Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 I have a friend who is on this list because he's a political activist. Since the FBI site on the watch list says this: The TSC cannot reveal whether a particular person is in the TSDB. The TSDB remains an effective tool in the government’s counterterrorism efforts because its contents are not disclosed. If TSC revealed who was in the TSDB, terrorist organizations would be able to circumvent the purpose of the terrorist watchlist by determining in advance which of their members are likely to be questioned or detained. ...Then, how exactly would your friend know he's on the list? Sounds more likely to me this is a ploy to pick up girls. Quote
