Inter.spem.et.metum Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 What's your favorite movie, kind of movie, least favorite kind of movie.... (I wasn't sure where to post this thread, so move it if need be.) Quote
Queso Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 Waking life is definitely my favorite movie of all time. I like all kinds of movies. My favorites are the ones that are so old the only sound is one guy on a piano. Least favorite....stupid *** movies. Quote
Tormod Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 I love hardcore sci-fi movies. Blade Runner, 2001, Alien, Solaris... I like wacky sci-fi/alternate movies like Donnie Darko, Prime etc. I have a weak spot for cool movies with bad plots, like the Matrix series and the Star Trek movies (I can't watch a Star Trek movie twice, they suck enough the first time). RoboCop. Anything sci-fi with Arnold goes fine - Total Recall, Running Man... I also really liked the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I loved Midnight in the garden of good and evil (which is a drama, not a horror flick). And A river runs through it. And Little women. And, ah. Stuff like that. Worst movie, dunno. Possibly Glimmer Man with Stephen Seagal, with all his other movies as strong contenders. Quote
Inter.spem.et.metum Posted October 30, 2007 Author Report Posted October 30, 2007 Donnie Darko was awesome! Favorites: American Beauty, Fight Club, Rules of Attraction, Children of Men, Lord of the Flies, Stay, 11:14, Dusk til Dawn.... Quote
Queso Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 children of men was so vivid. loved it. Quote
Inter.spem.et.metum Posted October 30, 2007 Author Report Posted October 30, 2007 It was one big metaphor. Beautifully depicted humans. I believe it showed both positive and negative sides of what we could possibly be. Quote
freeztar Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 It was one big metaphor. Beautifully depicted humans. I believe it showed both positive and negative sides of what we could possibly be. I concur. "Children of Men" was great on so many levels. Are we bound for the sea, to flea, the wretchedness we can no longer breed? But for my favorite movies, I would have to go with (in no particular order): The Big LebowskiHigh Fidelity2001Bill Cosby: Himself...lots more...hard to make a list on the fly... Quote
Boerseun Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Easy. Back to the Future 1,2 and 3. Least fav, like the T-man said: Anything with Steven Segal in it. Quote
CraigD Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 My favorite movie: Luc Besson’s ”The Fifth Element” (1997)My favorite kind of movie: Like my favorite writing, science fiction, the harder the better; closely followed by zombie movies of the kind I call "tactical horror" (definitive example: “Dawn of the Dead”, Romero’s 1979 version, more than the 2004 remake – though I love the new one’s end)My least favorite kind of movie: Physically nonsensical shoot-em-ups.My least favorite movie: There are too many to decide among I find the fact that my favorite movie is, by any practical measure, of my least favorite kind, an interesting and illuminating paradox. Quote
Queso Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 I loved the blue opera singing dreadlocked alien in the fifth element! Quote
Buffy Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Favorite Movie: Tie: Fellini's "Juliet of the Spirits" or DeBroca's "King of Hearts"Runner up (its too hard to pick just two!): Fellini's "Nights of Cabiria" or, yes, "The Fifth Element" Favorite Genre: Romantic Comedies or Chick Flicks... Genre I hate: Slasher films! Horror's okay sometimes, but gore for the sake of gore is just a complete turn off. Worst film (Tormod added that one): Well, of course its "Manos, Hands of Fate!" Watchable only with the comic relief of Joel and the 'Bots! We'll send him cheesy movies, the worst we can find, la-la-la, :(Buffy Quote
Racoon Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 My favorite kind of movie: Like my favorite writing, science fiction, the harder the better; closely followed by zombie movies of the kind I call "tactical horror" . I thought 28 Weeks was a scary Zombie flick. :thumbs_up I will rent the sequel now that its out on DVD soon, although reviews say its only OK. Quote
freeztar Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 How could I forget? :thumbs_up Monty Python "The Search for the Holy Grail" or "Life of Brian" Quote
Jay-qu Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 There are so many movies even types of movies that its hard to pick! I generally tend to enjoy most sci-fi movies I watch, favs: Stargate, serenity, star wars I have a weakness for surf/skate/snowboarding movies like pointbreak/grind/out cold I also watched an interesting one last night - Devils Advocate, not what I expected but still pretty cool. My least fav movies are in line with Buffy's - slash 'em up horror flicks. Im not sure if you place Saw (1,2,3) in this category but I really enjoyed those movies for the psychology and major twists in them! Quote
Inter.spem.et.metum Posted November 1, 2007 Author Report Posted November 1, 2007 I only like romances if they are comical. Slasher movies don't do anything but make me feel bad. I'm not scared, I'm sympathetic. Favorite kind of movie: Movies that depict human nature, primarily dramas and independent films. Quote
