An AI programmer, eh?

Welcome to hypography, Symbology - though we like folk of all disciplines, serious programmer types are especially welcome. An actual Turing test-passing bot … well, the whole world (at least my world) would ecstatically welcome such an entity, even if it were running some sort of investment scam!

I’m looking forward to your posts. Enjoy.

Thanks for the kind welcome ;) I am a friend of PyroTex, and he told me about it on Wednesday. I'm looking forward to running some ideas up the flag pole and seeing what's left of it after I bring it back down ;)

If I get canned for my outspoken opinions then you'll know who got me.... hehe

We'll be sure to grease it for you then!

Any friend of Pyro's is probably suspicious enough to have to keep an eye on a friend of mine!

Have fun!

So can any kind souls clue me in on how I can create a custom Avatar? Do I have to earn some points before that feature is activated?

I used Google to search this site for "custom avatars" and it came up empty.

The FAQ says its available if the moderator turns it on.

Thanks!

A programmer is someone very familiar with the following quotes:

"If at first you don't succeed, change the rules."

"It is an accomplishment to make something foolproof,

because fools are so ingenious."

- N. Kohn

GOOD - CHEAP - FAST

GOOD service FAST won't be CHEAP

FAST service CHEAP won't be GOOD

Where is the Quote forum? I don't see it...

I have about 1200 favorite quotes in my palm pilot. I like spicy foods and I like my conversations well spiced as well :hyper:

You could do a seach for the thread "quotes"

But that won't work because the Hypography search engine is shite

So go to tags box in Search pull down menu and type in "quotes".

That will give you a link to a link for the quotes thread (System must have been designed by an Irishman.)

I too love quotes and have a big collection- relating mainly to plants- stuck in an old Mac hard drive that stopped working when the removalists droped it from a great hight. Today a new second hand Mac arrived thanks to my Daughter who got sick of me winging & whining about Windows.

I am just working up the courage to do battle with it now.

My dream is to be asked by Terry Pratchett or his publishers to make a Terry Pratchett / Diskworld quote book.

As for spicy foods The "What's growing in your Garden" is the closest + The "Herbs" thread . I haven't started a Chilli / hot foods thread as having written a book on it there may be some conflict of interest.

There is some suggestion that we may need a gardening/farming sub forum.

Welcome again:)

Look Blue Fairy! I'm a real boy!!

I finally broke the 10 response quote so that I can now post links and have a custom Avatar.

Whew... it's nice to be human again :hyper:

... woops I hope nobody saw that...

The search engine is not flawed, you just have to realize that it searches through entire threads and produces a list with most recent first, by default.

If you go to the advanced search, you can restrict your search to "Search titles only" (drop-down menu under keyword search). Such a search for "quotes" yields the following: http://hypography.com/forums/search.php?searchid=203471

How come it can't do that in the first place?

I am searching "threads" not posts.

Sometimes it works and is happy. Other times it gives you a totally irrelevant list of threads. Maybe they have a post with the word "quotes" in them.

But I am not asking for that. If I was I would fill the "show posts" circle.

It is especially annoying when you type in

"water where will it come from in 2050"

and get

The search term you specified (it) is under the minimum word length (3) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer.

If this term contains a wildcard, please make this term more specific.

I have found going via ''tags" is quicker and more reliable.
